Not sure if Shaun Burgoyne being in the squad is some sort of sick joke, played midfield most of the year and struggled to crack 20 touches each week. God damn joke.

So Hooker, who has taken more intercept marks than anyone else, can't even get a look in?

3 Freo players included weren't really surprising

Ballantyne 19/22 games @ 2.57 goals per game (ended at 49.25)
Sandilands 21/22 games @ 38 hitouts and 12.9 disposals per game
Fyfe 18/22 games @ 26.7 disposals, 6.7 clearances, 3.3 inside50s and 1.1 goals per game (ended at 21.9)

Thought Mundy, Neale or Barlow might have also had a shot - Spurr as well, but no-one really knows who he is - such is the AA selection
Neale averaged 22 disposals and only kicked 8 goals. He played 4 outstanding games, 2 of which were in easy wins and non-events.

Barlow missed 5 games (Rance 5, Fyfe 4, Ablett 7 the notable ones who made it despite missing - Barlow not up to any of their standard imo) - didn't play too many poor games, but in the end his combined games missed + stats are down on others means he wouldn't make it.

Defenders don't usually fill the bulk of sides - between Talia, Mackenzie, Hooker, Rance, Lonergan, Smith x2, Burgoyne, Malceski and I reckon they will consider B.Ellis a defender - who was Spurr ahead of? I might argue Lonergan, and say that Spurr deserves a spot over Ellis as a defender, but about time Lonergan got recognised anyway.

Mundy was really the only one who would have been in the 41-50 range imo.

Matt Priddis is 1st in the league for disposals and 2nd for clearances but no serious team has him in the final 22. Not saying Nathan Jones is average, in fact I rate him very highly, but there is massive competition for a midfield spot, as everyone has been repeating ad nauseum in this thread.
Not saying that isn't the case, but his year he absolutely deserved it. And the theory that he tailed off towards the end doesn't have merit. He was, as usual, one of very few players to stand up in disaster games like GWS and against your mob.

Literally 1 stat, compelling argument. There will be an unlucky KPD considering the season the main 4 have had. Going around flapping about intercept marks should probably be the basis, not the crux, of your reasoning...

He's been pretty amazing to watch.

Not a dream teamer, but he is an absolute gun and playing consistently this season.

Reckon Gunston is a little lucky, given gray and Breust have been awesome forward pockets, buddy and roughy probably get the key posts and Parker should have a forward flank. Reckon the last spot will go a midfielder that can't fit in the midfield.

Those intercept marks have regularly been the starting point for Essendon counter-attacks. I guess i could add he's had a pretty good year..if not amazing, on the big key forwards (e.g. kept Cloke goal-less this season)

Agree with all this, I strongly believe if Hill hadn't missed so many games he would have been in there too though. MJ was in the same form as last year before injuries ****** his season.

I'd just be happy for Fyfe to make it since I reckon he should have gotten in twice by now.

I think he should've been in the squad of 40 too - and yes, even over Priddis and imo more deserving than Pearce Hanley, the other midfielder some are touting - but given the competition it's understandable. Look at the talent in the squad, those mids like Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood who have been pure class for some time and were great again this year, and others like Beams, Heppell and Rockliff who had incredible years.

Ur, have people watched Burgoyne this year?

Couldn't give a crap how many touches he gets - it's what he does with them. Has tailed off a little but was absolutely instrumental in many games this year for the Hawks.

Not to mention he's never been a ball magnet. Averages under 18 touches across his career and averaged 20.8 in his AA year. Watch the games people!

Talia surely has to be in.
Kept J and N Riewoldt, Roughead, Lynch goalless, Hawkins, Westhoff, Cloke and Petrie 1 goal. Absolutely hammered them.
Rance has been super the second half of the year but Mackenzie and Hooker have has amazing seasons too so they will get the nod. Sure Rance will challenge for a spot next year.

Fantasy scores have way too much influence over things like All Australian selection, because for most people, the only thing they see about how each player plays each week is their fantasy scores.

Would you take 40 touches from Rockliff or 25 from Burgoyne?

Yes he is pivotal to Hawthorns good skill game. He was good enough for the squad but not for AA team though.

2nd in the league for disposals. 3rd in the league for clearances. "Ridiculous" seems pretty appropriate to describe his omission from the top 40.
Nah not ridiculous some mids missed out that should've made it danger was first in contested possessions and first in centre clearances, 4 th in clearances
