Boak wouldn't be anywhere near AA.
Nowhere near is probably harsh as he has willed the team over the line more than once, plus got close to doing it a couple of other times.

Agree that he hasn't been at his consistent best, but as I tried to imply, in the past selectors have valued that sort of leadership probably a bit higher than they should.

EDIT: For mine I expect Wingard to be the only Port player. Gray should be close but probably not close enough, however trying to second guess the AA selection panel is as difficult as the MRP.

FWIW the Port B&F should be a two horse race between Gray and Wingard. Gray jumped to a big early lead, with Wingard flying home at a rate of knots.

I agree with Gray being a chance but I think Boak has had an average season. Is having nowhere near as big of an impact as he had in 2013 and 2014.

Haven't disagreed as such but his season has not been as bad as some make it sound.
He has scored AFLCA votes in 5 games only Vs 8 times for both Gray and Wingard.
So yeah agree but may differ on the extent.

The only point I was making wrt Boak was AA selectors valuing leadership more than most of us do when looking at AA.

I'd be very surprised if he made it, but not as surprised if he made the extended squad only because of the above.

Interestingly enough Fox Footy are talking up Jamie Cripps as a smokey for AA honours

I wouldn't have Boak among the top 10-15 midfielders this year TBH, which would logically mean he wouldn't make the AA squad of 40. He's not that far off his 2013-2014 form, it's just that the slight drop-off has coincided with Port's overall poor performance, and an uptick in output from a number of other mids around the league.

Once you get past the top half dozen or so of mids, you could really raffle it with a bunch of guys, and not really make a "bad" selection, so the gap isn't really that big. Still, it just doesn't have the feel of an AA-level year for Boak, if that makes sense.

Yeah it does and agre. As you say the gap isn't really that big. Sometimes we do tend to judge people against what they are capable of rather than how they are playing Vs other players, hence my disagreeing, not with you, that he is playing poop. He isn't playing poop but definitely not up to what he has done in the past.

As someone else has said, if he comes out and has big games he could easily narrow that gap.

If Boak comes out and plays the next 6 odd games in the same fashion that he did against Adelaide he could make it easily.
Mmm, nah.

Wingard certainty. Gray possibly. Hombsch outside chance.

No one else has a hope.

Jack Gunston quietly keeping his name thereabouts again. Continues to be among the league leaders in marks and goal assists, and is on track for a 165 mark, 50 goal, 25 goal assist H&A season. I'm leaning toward him ahead of Jeremy Cameron at this point. Just does more all-round, more consistently.

Really? Not been mentioned all year round plays one good game now he is AA contention... This is the problem with the AA.

I've mentioned him a number of times. Have been kind of puzzled at the lack of buzz TBH, as he's been consistently productive and efficient as ever. Even Bruce McAvaney intimated on commentary tonight that he was having a bit of a down year apart from the last couple of weeks, which I found bizarre.
