Jamie cripps has had a better year then betts, okay. AA is a team made up of the best performing players of the year, ladder position does not justify AA selections. I understand your view, but it is wrong (in my opinion)
Ladder position shouldn't, but it does. They always try to give a couple from the top 4 sides. I don't agree with it, but it happens. Gaff might make it as a winger I guess but even so, who else is making it from WC? Betts had an amazing 1st half of the season, his form has tapered off though. Is a good 13-14 weeks enough? Maybe. Not convinced though.

Kennedy is guaranteed to be in the 22 and I would also have NicNat, Gaff and Priddis in there. When picking these teams I think you have to just go with the best 2 performed small forwards regardless of the type of player they are, which is Wingard and Betts.
Maybe, but I would like to see a defensive forward recognised. Similarly it was good last year to have a small defender recognised. I would be happy with Rioli actually.

I don't like the idea of Rioli getting in, facts are he has probably played 2 great game for the year (including last weekend) all the rest he has been okay-pretty good. He will only be getting in because his name is Rioli.
Rioli has unquestionably been in Hawthorn's top 5 players this season and a strong argument can be made for our third best. Mitchell and Hodge are probably a clear 1 and 2 but Rioli has had his best season, especially the last couple of months. He is ranked third in coaches votes for the club (Mitchell 60, Hodge, 45, Rioli 36), the Hawthorn board will have him outright second after this last Saturday (Mitch 46, Rioli 32, Hodge 31) and I've got him fourth in my rankings (Mitch 93, Hodge 76, Gunston 63, Rioli 59).

Not trying to convince anyone of his place in the actual AA 22 as I haven't seen enough footy this year to form an opinion on other candidates other than the stats sheet. However from a Hawthorn perspective he is clearly in front of Breust and his season has been comfortably better than "ok - pretty good", given his influence on a top 4 side, with a % of 160.

Would surely be a certainty for the squad of 40 at least.

Mitchell, Hodge and Gibson have been our three best players this year.

I don't think he's been as good as he was in 2012. Minor thing, agree otherwise.

A little left field, but Sam Wright could be considered for the 40 AA squad.

Depends on your view. My view is simple, it is idea to have a small forward with tackling pressure in your team to go along with the attacking small forward. I would pick Rioli over Betts and yes I would pick Jamie Cripps over Betts. WC are coming 2nd they deserve a couple of AA's. Now one will be Nic Nat (2nd ruck) but who else? Priddis maybe but he is only borderline.
Kennedy is a lock. Gaff is pretty much a lock, and with the whole Brownlow/AA fiasco from last year Priddis is pretty likely and if Nic Nat finishes the season well he'll probably make the team.

How many eagles do you want in the team?

Cripps has had a great year, but he's shouldn't be in the team.

I still have Cripps in my side. Actually don't have Priddis, but he could get a bench spot, no issue if he does. He has had a great season. Forgot Kennedy, he is in my side and rightfully so. Kennedy and gaff are the only locks. Still would like a defensive tackling forward rewarded. I know it isn't popular, I get that. However I'd like to see them rewarding these positions. They are important in terms of keeping the ball inside 50.

Hodge will make the team if he plays the last 3. Rioli is a possible. Gunston to make the squad. That will be all from Hawthorn
Agree. Hodge and Mitchell should make the team, Cyril and outside chance. Might depend on how well Betts finishes the year.

Bruest and Gunston smokies if either player kick 5 goals each week. Very unlikely though.

Hahahaha.

Wright has been good this year, and certainly up on previous output, but I doubt he'd get a regular game at the Dogs at the moment, let alone a start in the AA squad...

Hodge a chance?? Yea, first picked chance.

Others in contention

Mitchell
Breust
Rioli
Gibson

Going by the media push ( which have an influence no doubt) the Hawks will either have none (Gerard Healy ) or all of the above names in the AA ( most of the rest of the medija).

All this talk of small forwards and no mention of Ben Stratton who has towelled small forwards every week and could well win the Hawks B&F.

Carry on.

Rubbish, he'd be playing for any side in the comp right now. Excellent small/medium defender who provides rebound and is an elite intercept mark. However, is one of a number of players every year who are having great seasons but the media hasn't picked up on it, so no chance to make the squad.

I wouldn't have him in over Murphy/Wood/Boyd/Johannisen at the moment.

I like Stratton and he's under rated but he's a no for me.

Didn't like the Smith pick last year, I prefer attacking players who can find their own footy and set up goals from deep in defence.
