Murphy is infinitely more damaging with the ball ... and I wouldn't expect South Australians to know but Matthew Boyd gets more touches than Laird
Murphy is a gun, but you're seriously under rating Laird; he's been brilliant this year.

He'll make the squad, probably won't make the side this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

I think Deledio should be in conversations now. He's the highest goal kicking midfielder in the game. He's only played 15 of 20 games this year and he's kicked 23 goals. He's averaging 10 contested possessions a game, 23 possessions, 8 score involvements, 71% disposal efficiency. He's a supreme player and our most important, considering we're 5th and have beaten Fremantle, Hawthorn and Sydney, you'd say Deledio should slot straight into that half forward line.

His games against the good teams? Against Hawthorn he won the game. Kicked 3 goals in the first quarter, 4 in total. I

well put it this way. sandi had more influence than those two when he played against him. Sandilands beat leunburger also. have you forget the last quarter where he determined the game. a couple of lucky goals dont hide that beating. undefeated and should be second ruckman at worst
Dustin Martin had more influence than Fyfe when he played against him. Should he be in ahead of him?

Deledio has not been good enough to warrant selection from a maximum of 17 games.

If he played 21-22 games, would deserve to be strongly considered, smooth as a Rolls Royce. But 17 games and you generally have to have a number of BOGs or match-winning efforts. Squad maybe, team no for mine.

and played as a utility/half back flank in most games…:thumbsu:

Matthew Boyd is the only other player with comparable stats to Hodge in such a role.
Rory Laird is the next best half back, averaging 23.9 possessions

Hodge is still one of the more versatile players in the AFL, capable of defending and providing rebound, moving into the centre to win clearances and getting forwards to kick and create goals.

Avg disposals (after Round 20)
30.6 Sam Mitchell, 6 goals
30.4 Jordan Lewis, 5 goals
30.1 Dan Hannebery, 13 goals
29.8 Dane Swan, 18 goals
29.8 Andrew Gaff, 9 goals
29.8 Matt Priddis, 6 goals
29.7 Josh Kennedy, 10 goals
29.4 Nat Fyfe, 16 goals
29.0 Leigh Montagna, 8 goals
28.8 Scott Pendlebury, 14 goals
28.7 David Armitage, 11 goals
28.2 Dayne Beams, 10 goals
27.4 Adam Treloar, 11 goals
27.4 Patrick Dangerfield, 18 goals
27.4 Jack Macrae, 3 goals
27.3 Marc Murphy, 7 goals
27.3 Lachie Neale, 12 goals
27.2 Luke Hodge, 15 goals
27.2 Matthew Boyd, 1 goal
Look at this list Swan averaging 30 and has kicked 20 goals now

Mate in light of Fyfe's potential scrubbing, Goldy has already come in from $7 to $5 for the Brownlow.
He's got the number 1 ruck spot locked away.
I was being 100% honest. In any other season NN would be the AA ruckman, but Goldy's season has been exceptional. I wouldn't lose any sleep if NicNat was named on the bench.

Gaff with a lazy 35 touches and 5 marks today, I think we can pencil him in for a spot on the wing - if the AA selectors go with a true winger.

Naitanui might be pushing for a 2nd ruck spot. Priddis might slot in somewhere too. Along with Kennedy, I think we're a very good chance for 4 in the 22, and if you told me that at the end of Round 1 this year I would've called you mad.

Interested how you came to put Walker at CHF?
He plays more at FF firstly but more importantly he is only just in the top 10 goal kickers this year. Honestly he would be lucky to even make the squad.
Even before the weekend Tex would have only been behind Kennedy if he had kicked straight though, been unusually accurate this year. Not sure he's had an AA year though struggled for form, possibly because of niggling injury at times during the season. I would definitely say Tex is more of a CHF.

Cripps , has the rising star ever made the AA team ??
Yes Daniel Talia in 2012 I think. Possibly Buckley in 1993 when He was at Brisbane. Midfielder spots are hotly contested. Cripps might make it on the bench.

Shaded him overall but can't keep a good man down, all class in that last quarter. Sandy got the points in the hitouts but around the ground goldy got the chocolates.
So Sandilands got the ruck taps but Goldstein got more disposals? Sounds fair.

Really bad value for the brownlow.

Ruckmen never poll well. Cox the perfect example.
I agree. I don't think Goldy will poll as well as many are predicting however, I think he'll do better relatively speaking than ruckmen in the past if only because the umpires will have been sucked in a little by the media-hype and we don't have one outstanding midfielder (although Swallow has tended to poll well). What is Cox's highest tally out of interest?
