I don't think Lids will make it and given the competition for half forward spots, I don't really think he should either. But if the only issue is that he missed 5 games - we all know Steve Johnson missed 7 due to a club imposed suspension and went on to make AA in 2007. In his remaining games he averaged 18 touches and kicked 20 goals. This year Lids averages 21 touches and has kicked 26 goals. Pretty handy stats. For me it isn't as much the games missed that'll push him out as it is the stack of quality HFFs/goalkicking mids in contention this year. Missing 5 games is probably too many amongst this crop.
Wot? SJ kicked 49 goals and averaged 18.6 touches a game in 2007. Much better than Lids.

McVeigh hasn't had an AA standard year imo. Only Swans with a chance at the 22 are Kennedy and Hannebery.

This thread really shows the quality of and how even the back line of the Hawks is.

Lowest for points against for the season and there could be a case for none making the AA team or for any of 4 to be included.

FB: Shaw, Rance, Wood

HB: Murphy, Hurley, Burgoyne

C: Pendlebury, Priddis, Hannebery

HF: Wingard, Walker, Rioli

FF: Stringer, Kennedy, Betts

R: Goldstein, Fyfe, Dangerfield

Bench: Bontempelli, Kennedy, Gray, Deledio

Quick write up.

Few toss of the coin decisions in there but that'll do for now. Could easily swap Selwood or Mitchell in for others mids. Rioli HF and Deledio bench because Rioli playerd more games.
Mitchell & Hodge are a mile in front of Burgoyne - Burgoynes season starts this weekend.

We also have the best attack but may not have a player there either, even though Gunston Rioli & Breust have been brilliant.

Here we go again with the champion data rankings, nobody goes to those stats as much as Eagles fans!!!

"He absolutely smashed Jacobs at subi earlier in the season". Yes he did, in round 15, which clearly is the second half of the season.

Last week Jacobs smashed him, im not sure why you guys are taking it so personal...

"Due to his slowish start in the first couple of weeks". This is my point about him being behind so many at the halfway point, your words not mine.

Exact same games you have seen champ, some live.

People were talking about Mumford being the dominant ruck of the comp and No1 for AA against Sandilands and Goldstien before his injury, Nik was clearly behind.

Well you sure have proven me wrong.
Jacobs dominated hitouts vs Geelong too but Geelong dominated clearances. Fact is Jacobs ruckwork is no where near influential enough as his stats say. He is crap around the ground too. So overrated.

Yup I'll definitely make some touch ups.

His slow start to the season was actually very good. The only match where he was disappointing was in his return match from injury vs. North Melbourne, was unfit and North didn't have to tag him too heavily to reduce his impact.

Deledio is a player that has to be watched. Matthew Lloyd and Richo stress it a lot, he's Richmond's most important player. Can play any position and might not get huge disposal numbers, but week in week he'll string out 4 quarter efforts and is more damaging than any other player we have. Absolutely smashes the score involvements at Richmond. Edit: Checked the stat. Leading score involvements per game for Richmond. Leading in the competition total in the last 10 rounds.

I can't think of any other player I can compare him to. He's not like Rioli as a player, but it's the same in the sense that people will read stats and constantly question him rather than paying close attention to the damage he does, while making it look subtle.
I agree - very damaging player and Richmond's most valuable IMO. Very interesting about score involvements - where can I access those stats?

He is borderline, really depends whether they feel 20 odd great games is better than a whole season. I have no issue with him making it. Hurley will make it missing 3 games in a bottom 4 side.

Gaff has to be in the 18, seriously I am biased but the best pure wingman in the comp for the year has to be a lock and this year it's him by a distance.
No bias there - Gaff (with Goldstein and JJK) should be the easiest player to pick in the whole team. Easily top 10 player this year and plays a specialist position that no one else in contention does.

Almost would like to have 2 wingmen in the side. Gaff is obvious. I would like to have either Stephen Hill or Issac Smith in the side on the other wing.

Yep, as I said originally, is touch and go. He IS very damaging and Richmond's most valuable but that doesn't guarantee him a place. Hotly contested position, missed 5 games and a couple of quieter ones at the start. Borderline is exactly where he is at (and on the bench there is no requisite to pick a HF over a pure mid or any other position)

Think that is the way they may go. Might be a bench option where you can get away with picking someone missing 5 games. No issue there. In fact I'd rather pick Deledio than pick Priddis/some other inside mid.

One of those catch 22's isn't it. Whilst both have been good (and great at times), neither Smith nor Hill were top 30-40 playes in 2015, with many other mids ahead of them. However, they are the best candidates for players that are actual wingman. The old quality vs positional accuracy argument.

I respectfully disagree, especially Smith. He would be in the top 15 players, one of the most influencial players in a strong Hawks side. Firmly believe the 2 wingers should be 'wingmen'. If you can't make it as a mid, you shouldn't get a spot on the wing. Reward these players who play on the wing.

So I'm guessing the point of this exercise is to pretend you are being a neutral selector but crowbar a few undeserving players from own team in and then defend your idiotic selections to the death?
Pretty sure that's what happens at the actual selection meeting. Still annoyed at the Mark LeCras snub of '09.

Barcelona,
I'll give you 100-1...and that is generous. Zero chance, none, nada this season. Has improved, but a mile off making this team. Been a strong year for defenders. As it is a Talia type will miss.
It is a cool hashtag though :( He is not far off! Amazing year. 22 disposals a game, lots of intercept marks, will be close to winning Suns best and fairest.
