All-Star game and home run derby

I couldn't see a dedicated thread in the last 4-5 pages for the All-Star game and the home run derby. It's a bit of a cream puff event (though I enjoy the home run derby) yet it still counts towards the World Series with the winning league in the All-Star game ending up with home field advantage during the World Series.

The rosters were announced earlier today.

Six players from the Oakland Athletics were selected to represent the American League in the 2014 All-Star game - Scott Kazmir (LHP), Josh Donaldson (3B), Derek Norris (C), Yoenis Cespedes (OF), Brandon Moss (1B/OF) and Sean Doolittle (LHP).

Jeff Samardzija was named a National League All-Star but won't play in the game.

Donaldson and Cespedes were fan selections, Moss was a player selection and the rest were manager selections.

The Orioles had three players selected for the All-Star game for the American League - Adam Jones (OF), Nelson Cruz (DH) and Matt Wieters (C), but Wieters will miss the season with Tommy John surgery, so he has been replaced with Salvador Perez of the Royals.

The rest of the AL starters are first baseman Miguel Cabrera (Tigers), second baseman Robinson Cano (Mariners), shortstop Derek Jeter (Yankees), Mike Trout (Angels) and Jose Bautista (Blue Jays).

The National League will be represented by Aramis Ramirez (Milwaukee Brewers) and Carlos Gomez (Brewers), Paul Goldschmidt (Diamondbacks), Chase Utley (Phillies), Troy Tulowitzki (Rockies), Yadier Molina (Cardinals), Andrew McCutchen (Pirates) and Yasiel Puig (Dodgers).

The AL will select between Yu Darvish (Rangers), Max Scherzer (Tigers), Felix Hernandez (Mariners), Masahiro Tanaka (Yankees), Jon Lester (Red Sox), David Price (Rays), Kazmir (Athletics) and Mark Buehrle (Blue Jays).

The AL relieves are Sean Doolittle (Athletics), Glen Perkins (Twins), Derek Holland (Rangers) and Dellin Betances (Yankees).

For the NL, Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke (Dodgers), Madison Bumgarner (Giants), Adam Wainwright (Cardinals), Julio Teheran (Braves), Jordan Zimmermann (Nationals), Johnny Cueto (Reds) and Tyson Ross (Padres). The NL bullpen will consist of Craig Kimbrel (Braves), Aroldis Chapman (Reds), Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers), Pat Neshek (Cardinals) and Tony Watson (Pirates).

After winning the home run derby in 2013, Yoenis Cespedes will be back to defend his crown and he may also be bringing Josh Donaldson with him. The official announcement of the competitors in the home run derby will be made on Tuesday (US time) by American League Derby captain Jose Bautista.

Bautista hit 10 home runs in the first round to lead the AL. Cespedes defeated club teammate Josh Donaldson on a swing-off to move through to the second round.

Giancarlo Stanton hit six home runs in the first round to lead the NL and earn a bye into the third round.

Cespedes is the second only player in history to defend his HR crown, joining Ken Griffey Jr in a very exclusive club. Cespedes hit 30 HRs on the night, which was three more than the combined NL roster.

Think you mean feet :p

The HR derby is actually more exciting than the all start game. I absolutely hate the fan voting in the AS game, makes it a complete joke.
