So thoughts on the All Star saturday session?

My fantasy ball man JRich had a big day, MVP in the rookie game and winner of the dunk contest.
Personally although I was happy with the winner of the dunk contest i DID NOT like the new format of two head to head contests, as well as the 'wheel' which just happened to land on Dr J every second spin. Also thought the judges were a bit tough on Gerald Wallace, but JRich fully deserved to win.
The 3 on 3 got better as it progressed, at first i felt it was a waste of time as the crowd wasn't getting into it, but by the time the final came around it felt like a real intensity came into the game which surprised me a bit.
The shootout was a bit of a letdown with a few of the faves faltering in the first round but hats off to Peja, another deserving winner.
All in all a good day, but i was very dissapointed that we didn't see the rookie game! The highlights reel looked impressive with JRich and Darius pulling off some big dunks it's just a shame we didn't get to see the game.

I enjoyed the Got Milk? rookie game last year, was disappointing not to see it this year.

Enjoyed the 1800 CALL ATT shootout, Wesley Person was unlucky but Peja's shooting in that playoff was phenomenal.

I'm not sure about the NBA.com Slam Dunk Presented by RealOne. Richardson has some hops (but only off 2 legs it seems), but I don't think the wheel will be back next year.

I thoght they could have done without the 989 Sports All-star hoop-it-up challenge. The old guys were shockers, and i found myself turning the channel over when it was on.

Yea Fox's coverage was a joke.

But the old guys were good in that 3 on 3 thing.

Marcuilenus (sp.) still got it in him from down town.

Am I the only person here who wants to kill that Fairy Moron from NSYNC?

Foxtel are totally screwed, for the last few weeks i have been looking forward to seeing the Rookie vs. Sophmore match, and i turn on to see Sir Charles and Kenny Smith talking **** for 4 hours instead of the actual game.

The highlight of what i saw was the 3 on 3, loved seeing the old dog Moses Malone going at it, also good to see Sarunas Marcilonius hasn't lost his competitive streak.

Lowlight of the day was definitely the stupid idea of using the wheel in the Dunk Contest, whoever thought of that idea should be shot.
That bloody idea cost Des Mason his Dunk Title, how is a man of 6 foot 3 expected to mimic Dr.J? He couldn't even cup the ball like Dr. J

Cheers

All in all a good day....but i was bitterly disappointed that we didnt get to see the Rookie Game???? Looked like some nice dunks and i was picking the Rookies all the way and they didnt let me down.

The 3pt Contest was once again good, was nice to see my man Nash get through to the final 3, he was lucky though with Allen missing his final money ball attempt. Couldnt have scripted it better with Nash setting a good score to beat first up, Stoja getting over the line with his final shot and then Person missing his final shot to make it a play off.....Stoja was too good though. But if one of em was shooting for my life id take Person, he has the sweetest rhythm on his jumper i have ever seen.

I enjoyed the 3 on 3 alot..pity Magic didnt go through as he is a crowd favourite but i thought the highlight was TV's Ed getting in the face of Timberlake!! Go Ed, hassling him all the way! Then he scored a lay up on him! But it got pretty serious in the end and it was big shot from Hedo to win the game, should be good each year with new celebs and new legends in the games.

The Dunk Comp....well for starters it was cut in half? We didnt see the round 1 clash between Mason and Richardson? Plus the new vs mode isnt the best idea. The wheel had its good moments and its bad moments, like Richardsons almost spitting image of Nique's windmill was great but then Francis' attempt and that Statue of Liberty 360? He couldnt do it cos he cant palm the ball so he just went in and did something totally different? Thought Wallace got stiffed all night by the judges but Richardson with his last dunk clearly had the best dunk of the night, that one gentlemen was one the ages.

The Dunk Comp needs a complete redo...its now down to just 4 competitors and it certainly doesnt have the same feel like it did years ago, plus the abundance of rules, was it a dunk, wasnt it a dunk, all the missed dunks...it just didnt run smoothly. Not like in the old days. I remember you would see Nique and Spud just talking and laughing then out of nowhere Spud would just start running and finish with authority...everybody would get up!!! Wave there 10's in the air...etc etc. The Jordan dunk, everyone clapping and standing, the dunk comp just doesnt seem to be fun anymore.

But all in all an entertaining day, annoyed at not seeing the Rookie game but hoping for big things tomorrow with the All Star Game.
