At our current trajectory we'll be Italy in 2 weeks... just with a younger populous and a better health system. Not necessary at this stage surely .
I am all for stage 3/stronger measures but a total lockdown does not give people who have recently lost their jobs times and means to prepare themselves.
We will not have the outbreak that has plagued Italy, Spain and The USA, given our current trajectory, with most new cases seemingly still linked to people arriving in Australia.
I am.perfectly happy for the status quo to remain in Victoria for another couple of weeks, we do need some semblance of liberty and freedom (like walking the dog or taking kids to the park etc)
A full lockdown might make things worse in many respects (repeat scenes of hoarding shoppers and fights at Coles/Woolies etc)
We are getting closer to a vaccine/cure for this Virus, it is not going to drag on for months and months (least in Australia), I think everyone needs to chillax a bit and don't be concerned with what is happening overseas, scientists have said the virus is developing and infecting people at a less severe rate than in China or Europe.
dont think this is true. we are currently averaging ~400 per day. 2 weeks ago Italy was averaging ~3000.At our current trajectory we'll be Italy in 2 weeks... just with a younger populous and a better health system.
Maybe you're right. Might be three weeks instead.dont think this is true. we are currently averaging ~400 per day. 2 weeks ago Italy was averaging ~3000.
Just goes to show how little you know about what a beach is eh? Big Surf at St Kilda is there?Coz Sydney has the only sand and water on the planet...
Not only asymptomatic but hundreds or thousands with mild symptoms who still do not meet criteria for testing.Considering No testing is or has or will be done for Asymptomatic people who have potentially been exposed in workspaces etc etc we are just now seeing the tip of the iceberg.
Good pastries!Just goes to show how little you know about what a beach is eh? Big Surf at St Kilda is there?
One of our Prime Ministers drowned on a Melbourne surf beach. Never seen again. Plenty of surf beaches near and around Melbourne.Just goes to show how little you know about what a beach is eh? Big Surf at St Kilda is there?
Data shows Italians have contained new infections rates to ~5000 per day over the last 10 days. Its still a bad situation (5000/day) but it is not spiraling out of control like it seems to be in the US....there the new infections are still trending upwards and is currently ~18000/d. NY would be a very scary place right now.Maybe you're right. Might be three weeks instead.

Over 9,000 people have lost their lives from the virus!

What is most scary is that they are using community transfers to gauge when we need to lock down completely but if you mention you have flu symptoms the 1st two questions they ask are have you had direct contact or been overseas and if you say no they won't even test you.Not only asymptomatic but hundreds or thousands with mild symptoms who still do not meet criteria for testing.
What's morbidly fascinating about it all is the comparison to Germany. You're kidding right?
Their death rate is at 45% of closed cases. They just had their highest single day of deaths. They had their 2nd and 3rd highest tally of new cases in the last 2 days
They will exceed their highest tally of deaths in the next 24 hours
It's still dire

Similar age demographics. Both have a high rate of infection (2nd most vs 5th most). Germany has had far fewer deaths.
Why?
