It is recognised that this is a fraught topic for any number of you posting here. Some of you will have family in Israel or Palestine. Some of you will have connections to either side of the conflict. What you need to understand is that this site has rules governing posting standards and the appropriate way to talk to other posters, and you will abide by them.

How this interacts with this thread is that the following will result in your post being deleted, with a recurrence of the same behaviour resulting in (depending on severity) a threadban for a week and a day off:
  • direct labelling of someone as anti-semitic or a terrorist sympathiser for posting that is merely critical of Israel's response over time. Israel has the right to defend themselves from violence, but that does not mean that Israel has carte blanche to attack disproportionately towards people under their care.
  • deliberate goading or flippant responses, designed to get people reacting to your posting emotionally.
  • abuse.
  • attempts to turn this into a Left vs Right shitfight.
  • Use the word 'Nazi' in here, you had better be able to justify it in the post you're making and the comparison had better be apt. Godwin's law is in full effect for the purposes of this thread; if you refer to Nazis, you've lost whatever argument you're involved in.
  • Any defense of Hamas' actions on the basis of justification. There's no justification for genocide, regardless of whether or not they have the power to do so.
Please recognise that this is a difficult time for all involved, and some level of sensitivity is absolutely required to permit discussion to flow. From time to time, mods will reach out to specific posters and do some welfare checks; we may even give posters who get a bit too involved some days off to give people some time to cool down. This is not a reflection on you as a poster, merely that this is an intense subject.

I get that this is a fairly intense topic about which opinion can diverge rather significantly. If you feel you cannot be respectful in your disagreement with another poster, it is frequently better to refuse to engage than it is to take up the call.

From this point, any poster who finds themselves directly insulting another poster will find themselves receiving a threadban and an infraction, with each subsequent reoccurance resulting in steadily more points added to your account.

It has also become apparent that this needs to be said: just because someone moderates this forum that does not hold them to a different standard of posting than anyone else. All of us were posters first, and we are allowed to hold opinions on this and share them on this forum.

Treat each other with the respect each of you deserve.

Funny that, I am sure he had climate alarmists and freedom of speech hating lefties in mind when he made those comments. Clearly it's all up to one's interpretation.
No , he was talking about the rise of Trump and Brexit. Your posts provide lots of evidence for the prosecution;)

Another Example that the Liberals hate Welfare

NOt true, Dave. They love welfare for the wealthy. It was under Howard they began class warfare against the unemployed and the poor whilst lining the pockets of rich. They have done it very effectively as they have the reins of power. The poor, the unemployed have no voice to fight back. You may remember the calls on the Labor Party to stop the class warfare during the last election. It is a propaganda technique, blame it on the other side to cover up your sins. Scare campaigns work really well in politics, as most voters are blissfully ignorant. You know, tell a lie often enough and people will believe you. The Murdoch Press are the perfect example of this.

It also sums up bigots to a tee.

Cuts both ways, bud...
I would have thought that a bigot disliked someone for no good reason.

Trump cheated employees and contractors out of money owed, yet likes to tell the world how rich he is(all inherited wealth by the way as he is not a businessman's a-hole), treats women appallingly(too many instances to note here), gives references for paedophile friends, gets financial and moral support from the KKK and NRA, two of the world's worst terrorist organisations.

Many very good reasons to dislike someone. We could get into the Russia question and his years of draft dodging, but the above is more than enough I would have thoght

Well they just look after themselves and there Rich Biddies. Can't let Money get to the People who Need It.

Murdoch Propganda Machine Loved that and How they said Negative Gearing would Screw everyone but did not mention how the Libs was going to do it worse

Does everybody remember the outrage over the Andrews Government decision to merge the CFA with the metropolitan Fire Service?
Professional, full time fireys taking control of volunteers. The press paragraphs totalled thousands of pages. The country CFA supporters stickered their cars.
Was an interesting time.
But the last few weeks shows that this action was the correct one. Thefire crisis this month has been unprecedented, and we have had minimal loss of life.
Thats a win in anyone’s book.
As an aside, I was talking to a CFA strike force commander a few days ago. He told me of the response to a blaze near Euroa. He recounted how a tanker had arrived from Mooroopna and the volunteers emerged from it and instanly froze. They simply didn’t understand the enormity of what was in front of them. In his own words, “they thought it was just like a video game”.
In fact one young volunteer, after a two hour drive, hadn’t even secured his pants and my informant told how this idiot was running to unfurl a hose with his pants around his ankles. It would be funny if not for the seriousness of the situation.
The volunteers, while certainly trying their best, ended up costing time and land because they couldn’t unfurl the hoses, resulting in knotted hoses that due to water pressure couldn’t be fixed.
Its early days, but the merger of professional and volunteer is working and will get better.

This was always a Murdoch ploy to discredit Dan Andrews. Every Firey i spoke to didnt understand the fuss and said its just political bullshit. Murdoch press are not doing a good job at discrediting Andrews who is doing a great job and is popular. He should be in federal politics.

Then you would have thought wrong. Check the dictionary.

And your above post corroborates my observation.

Actually a significant proportion of Australian voters give sheep a bad name.

Here’s a member of the Government who has overseen the Centrelink Robodebt campaign, which I’m sure if the media dug deep enough would find has contributed to suicides.
Any member of the public who defrauded the Australian Government, would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Even facing imprisonment, at the least a criminal conviction.
Bit no, members are able to defraud the Government with impunity.

No Such Thing as a Honest Pollie
Absolutely Dave.
I would just like then to be subject to the same laws as you and I.
When they blatantly commit a crime, all they have to do is apologise and repay the money they fraudulently took.
You try and do that and see if it makes a difference.
Its an absolute rort.

You just know Trump is disappointed at it only being 3mill...

I’m a leftie. Always have been, always will be.
But if Andrews pushes this through, then I’ll vote for any raving lunatic that puts his name forward.

So you're a leftie but only as long as the left do things your way

I'm not sure you understand the philosophy of being a part of the left

Come over to the right side and whole new world of reality can be yours
