We should all be familiar with the phenomenal website afltables.com maintained by *Paul*
- Change Log - https://afltables.com/afl/changes.html
- Site Notes - https://afltables.com/afl/notes.html
- Player Stat Notes - https://afltables.com/afl/stats/notes.html

AFL fans owe Paul a debt of gratitude, same goes for those that do or did maintain fantastic AFL resources.

I've been wondering whether we should have a thread dedicated to the site. Observations, suggestions, etc.

I'll start ... looks like we have a new page coming soon - https://afltables.com/afl/teams/allteams/finals.html

*Paul*, would you like a banner at the top of the Statistics forum? We used to have one for FootyStats, Kevin Taylor's site (RIP :()

Thanks, banner away if you like. This would be a good place for anyone to suggest "settled research" changes too. New tables possibly as well, although I've been pretty lethargic for a while, so no guarantees.

On a nitpicking note, I believe it is right to state that all the sections which begin with "Least", should, in accordance with correct grammatical structure, actually say "Fewest". If it is too much trouble to change all the Leasts into Fewest this will not diminish the quality of the website, just thought I'd put it out there for consideration. I most certainly have AFL Tables saved in my Favorites bar, where it is clicked with regularity, regardless of whether it is footy season or otherwise.

Least and Fewest is definitely one that I would get wrong on occasion.

"If you're talking about a number of objects, then you use fewest. If you're talking about an amount or quantity, as with flour, water, sugar, sand, etc., then least is the correct term. Fewest, the superlative of few is for objects that are countable. Least, the superlative of less, is used for things that are uncountable/measurable."

If you're looking for suggestions for new tables etc, I think a section devoted to just grand finals and associated records would be helpful. It's a fantastic site, I've been using it for 10+ years. Always have been impressed at it's comprehensiveness and the speed in which it is updated.

*Paul*, this page and individual club pages have these stats:

[Won From 1st Qrt Deficit] [Won From Half-Time Deficit] [Won From 3rd Qrt Deficit] [Lost With More Scoring Shots] [Biggest Losses With More Scoring Shots]

How about we get the converse as well:

[Lost From 1st Qrt Lead] [Lost From Half-Time Lead] [Lost From 3rd Qrt Lead] [Won With Less Scoring Shots] [Biggest Wins With Less Scoring Shots]

And then order them appropriately:

[Won From 1st Qrt Deficit] [Won From Half-Time Deficit] [Won From 3rd Qrt Deficit] [Won With Less Scoring Shots] [Biggest Wins With Less Scoring Shots]
[Lost From 1st Qrt Lead] [Lost From Half-Time Lead] [Lost From 3rd Qrt Lead] [Lost With More Scoring Shots] [Biggest Losses With More Scoring Shots]

*Paul*: New stat request: [Most games between finals]

https://afltables.com/afl/stats/alltime/misc_players.html#11

Nathan Jones probably the clubhouse leader: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/N/Nathan_Jones.html
2018 saw Nathan Jones of Melbourne play his first finals match since 2006. Jones played 254 games in the 12 seasons between finals appearances.

Similarly, 2018 also saw Gary Ablett Jnr return to finals football after 8 years (and 129 games) with Gold Coast and Geelong.

How do these finals droughts compare all time? Jones must be close to the record for longest finals drought.

I'd like to see the match by match details for 1930 - 1977 include indication of who was listed as 19th (and later) 20th men,
and those players who were replaced during the match.

A few years ago we had the "substitute" system in place - Paul has indicated match-by-match what happened there with very effective but simple "up & down arrow" symbols as in this Nth Melb v C'wood match

Great work Paul.

Love the Tables.

I actually thought the AFL maintained the AFL tables, so just shows sometimes things are done far better outside.

But it might be an idea at that, in the distant future upon retiring, the AFL keeps the tables going for as long as the game is played.

Or is that anathema?

That’s a bingo.
Correct.

Also the NUMBER of people that say “amount” of people....
It has to always be number of people.

Hear it all the time.

I’ve got to say your grammar nitpicking has made this one of my fewest favourite posts of yours.
