The labour they paid for?

most of the Rich get they was by maniuplation of the economic system in a rent taking manner that rarely contributed anything to society as a whole and often is a net loss. Capitalism is designed for and run for the benefit of Capital. Shock Horror.

Cut it anyway you like the Rich enjoy a very privileged position in society where many people labour to make their live such easier than everyone else's. They are the biggest beneficiaries by far of the correct system, yet they often actively undermine the working of the system, and seem opposed to paying their way in any shape or form. Many extremely rich people and companies pay zero tax.

By definition the Rich get more out of society than they contribute , if they didn't they wouldn't be rich.

Is the IFS article saying that for the UK, 36% is the theoretical average tax rate which produces maximum tax revenue?
If so, how does that compare with the actual average tax rates in Australia and the UK?

Top rate of tax i believe (currently 45% in the UK). The Brown just as he was about to leave office put the top rate from 40 to 50p then Cameron cut it after a couple of years back to 45. Poms have national insurance of top of income tax so its a bit misleading re the rate.

Evidence seems to be that the increase to 50p actually cost money.

Abbott saying COALition will lose election because of policy. Yet we know Malcolm pretty much took on all Tony's policies. But spposedly a better salesman

So abbot is really saying that his polices actually didn't work because they weren't appied harshly enough

So vote COALItion and you just keep getting loonier and loonier right policy

Sounds wonderful

A Hanson/Abbott ticket.
The ultimate indignity for Tony, worse even than being deported back to his homeland in Blighty but far less satisfying for the rest of us.
I have the feeling Tony will be manufacturing a "wardrobe malfunction" to keep his increasingly irrelevant head in the news....Looks for socks falling out of budgie smugglers on an evening news near you.

Remember when people took him seriously as a politician?

Some. Yes.
It all fell apart when he and Costello refused to become a stand up team. People realised he thought he actually was a politician.

I would have put money on a third challenge before today, but I think Tone has realised just how few friends he has left. He will never have the numbers. If Mal continues to struggle, they will look to another option, not look back.

Agree. what a deluded little man.

Lol at perpetually outraged lefties who still can't connect welfare dependency and the ruinous state of our economy. Good on the great Tony Abbott for shining a light on it! Reality is one in 4 people will suffer depression at some point in their lives, if all of them quit work and jumped onto welfare the economy would collapse.

Was it the Howard years where they 'encouraged' older unemployed onto disability to make the figures look good

Yes but labor can't be trusted

It's the trump effect

That bozo getting the keys to A (admittedly fading) world power has got all sorts of frogs pollies higher than any drug known to mankind

So high they imagine only they can save the world

We need an antidote. PM Dutton could be it

For every action there's a reaction, Australia's swing to the hard right predated the Trump phenomena by a good few years, and the way polls are going here, there's a decent chance that our right wing numpties could be cooling their heels in opposition while their ideological counterparts overseas are making hay,

What took them so long?

Poor old Tone, his own brand of nasty, conservative populism is sweeping the world now, and he's sitting at the kid's table.

If he hadn't been useless. If he hadn't rubbed Putin up the wrong way he trump and Putin could be dreaming up some kind of "coalition of the willing" in response to some non existing threat

You blew it, tony

Problem with Tony is that at heart he's like a more outspoken version of Mitt Romney, what with his contempt for unemployed people and his slavish devotion to neoliberalism. While Trump is even more crass than Tony is, he has populist, protectionist and isolationist instincts which Tony apparently lacks.

For example, Trump and Putin appear to get along quite well whereas Tony's behaviour towards Putin befits that of a neo-con, what with his desire to involve the ADF in Ukraine and 'shirt-front' Putin.

There can be no doubt that Tony Abbott was a disgrace as both a Parliamentarian and PM. A dog of a human unfit to hold citizenship who should have been deported back to his actual homeland long ago.
He supplied personal reference for a child molester and holds Pell as one of his "friends".
His behaviour at the time of Gillard's fathers death is the measure of the dirty animal.

Great parliamentarians like Fred Daly would not even deign to spit on such a piece of s**t.

What the former Liberal greats must think up in heaven if there is such a place.
