All-Time Basketball Draft

For serious though, he wasn't even the best player in that era (which was hugely favoured for bigs, no 3pt line, no off 3 etc). He shot less than 45% from the field as a big. Some people argue he wasn't even the best player on that team. Anyone who mentions Bill Russell in the same group as MJ, Magic, LeBron, Bird etc have the same basketball iq as a spoon (coming from a c's supporter)

Do you really think Bill Russell is the 2nd goat? Or even worth mentioning in a top 5?
It was a fantasy draft where people build the team they believe has the best shot at winning. The guy won 11 rings, was a great defensive player and a great teammate/leader. It's not that ridiculous for him to go number 2.

These sorts of drafts always have these kind of things happen because everyone has their own criteria for who they take. It isn't just about who is the best, second best etc.

Picking Russel high isn't crazy (even though I wouldn't do it). In these sort of drafts you are going to get guys who can score with your 5th round pick, so getting an offensive god isn't as important.

LeBron going 9th was horribad though. I may have even written in this thread that he's would have been a solid pick at number 1. Maybe even more so than MJ (though I'm always going to pick MJ). Like I said you're going to get scorers though out the draft, so having a scorer/facilitator as great as LeBron would have been a good pick. His versatility at both ends helps too.

LeBron James 9th made me drop my phone. In what universe are there 7 players who played the game better? Russell 2nd is hilarious since he played against the same 6"5 white guys every 3rd game who would have a smoko at HT.
lol yeah as soon as i overlooked him i felt a little embarrassed. Happy with the Dream and Kobe though.

It is ridiculous when you have every other player not named MJ on the board.

Depends. If we are doing careers, MJ leaves twice for 5 years. LeBron still giving you peak 14 seasons in. I'd much rather LeBron for 14 years straight, with 10+ year peak than MJ for 15 years all over the place, with a 8ish year peak.

If you want half the rings then fair enough. You go for it.

Thats not how a career draft works, but wouldn't expect you know to that.
Cant see anywhere where it says a career draft though. I drafted based on a team that i thought could win it all not necessarily over a certain amount of time.

Im still taking MJ every day of the week and twice on sundays. Hes the GOAT and will always be the GOAT

Like I said, depends "if". I originally said I'm taking MJ in a normal draft. However career draft, everything gets put into a vacuum. Accomplishments gets thrown out. You are taking the raw players and their direct output.

86-87 to 92-93, then 95-96 and 96-97. He has 9 peak years.

MJ must be pretty ****ing good if he's winning MVPs in seasons he's not peaking.

he should have won 9. It's a joke that they put Malone/Barkley ahead.

98 he had his lowest everything in the metric box since his rookie year. I had Shaq>MJ that year and so did a lot of people, but like they charity gave one to Kobe, Malone, Rose, Barkley etc, they gave it MJ.

for the record Shaq finished 4th in the MVP that year. MJ had 92 first place votes, to Shaq's 1. So to say "a lot of people", would be wrong.

People make mistakes and get caught up in the moment. Derrick Rose was a mistake, Kobe was a mistake, Nash was a mistake etc. You can go on and on about how many times MJ missed it. I get the argument though. Best player on the best team. I'm fine with MJ winning it, but don't pretend he was peak in 98 and a MVP warrants that. We are looking at PEAK MJ. This wasn't peak MJ, it might have been peak for another player, but not MJ.

The fact is MJ''s stats, metric and simple, ALL dropped to his lowest. He didn't look after his body well enough.

MJ winning the MVP in 98 wasn't a mistake. Shaq winning it in 98 would have been. Malone is the only one that has any sort of claim on it that year other than MJ.

Also, no idea why you seem to think MJ didn't look after his body. Didn't miss a game in the 2nd 3 peat. Your expectations that someone at 34 should still be as good as he was at 28ish seems strange.

he drank heavily and smoked heavily. He slept 4 hours a night. Athletically he was declining 96+. Everything drops. How can you not see that,
