play a batsmen short - Bradman and Gilchrist make it up so the batting line up is still solid as a rock. get an extra bowler. two spinners, three quicks. sobers sixth bowler.

could easily replace Viv, G Pollock or Hammond into Sach's position.

Imran or Wasim could take Miller's position.

Imran, Wasim, Hadlee, Lillee, Ambrose, McGrath could take Garner's position but ive always love Garner. Steyn is moving fast into that top echelon of quick bowlers imo.

The other eight are pretty set for mine, though you'd have to give serious consideration to Kallis either at number 4, or for Sobers too....

When it comes to the quicks I want every base covered, raw pace, orthodox, swing, reverse swing, ability to bowl sides out on low slow pitches and also I want a bloke in there who can tie up the runs but still be a wicket taking threat, the blokes best at this tend to be physical giants.

The best 3 practitioners of this are Garner, Ambrose and McGrath.

For my money Ambrose is the standout of the 3, as well as being as miserly as the other two, bowling back of a length and giving nothing on the front foot, he had (in his pomp) an ability that the other two didn't and that was to turn on the afterburners and go from stock bowler to shock bowler with the fall of a wicket.

He's almost be the first name on the teamsheet for me.

You can field a fast bowling attack of say Marshall, Hadlee, Lillee and all 3 of them are greats but it's not an ideal blend, I'd want one of Imran or Akram for the reverse swing/ subcontinent pitches knowhow (I'd go Imran, he doesn't lose much in comparison as a bowler to Akram but bats far better), add in the big man and then you can take your pick for the third one.

The batting is more about subjective opinion, pretty much whoever you think is best.

Personally I'd have Hutton in there as an opener, I think he had Hobbs covered overall really.Probably pick them both.

Hutton
Hobbs
Bradman
Hammond
Richards
Sobers
Gilchrist
Imran
Lillee (close run thing with Marshall)
Warne
Ambrose

If you were picking against someone else and one of you had the first pick then it was 2 picks each until both teams are named then the players I'd be most keen to nail down are Bradman & Warne because I think that they're peerless.

After that Ambrose would be high on the list as would Gilchrist, as for the rest, there's always another choice pretty much as good who offers something a little different.

I've got to be honest mate but I think your tail is a bit long, you have to assume that your side would be playing against a side equally as good or perhaps even better.

4 earliesh wickets and that side could be rolled over for not very many on a pitch with a little bit in it.

Sobers/Gilchrist/Miller all like a dart at it and the bottom 4 don't offer a great deal.

If you reverse the batting order of Gilchrist and Miller, that is a classic batting order - all rounder at #6 and keeper at #7. You could go with another full time batsman instead of Miller (I would) but I think his position is justifiable.

I think Marshall's batting is underrated too. He didn't quite get his average up to the level of a bowling all-rounder but he was better than handy.

potentially a bit short, but with a top six in any all time team you're not thinking about being 4 for not many too often, and having (imo, not everyone's i know) the five greatest bowlers of all time you'd back yourself to blast out the opposition for less (spoken like a true bowler!! :))... the bottom four is fine for mine. warne (25) and marshall (18) are pretty standard for 8 and 9. not really any different to anyone's except those who batted imran khan at 8 who get an obvious batting boost there.

i do see you're point re; having 5, 6 and 6 all having a dash at it (and to be honest so to do bradman tendulkar) so in light of that in terms of balance for the batting i'd highly consider moving kallis in for sobers, who would be your rock in the batting order at number 5.

I don't mind your line-up Black Thunder, I'd probably tweak it a bit and go for Imran over Miller, but apart from that it's pretty solid.

Maybe Warne and O'Reilly is overkill, but if the game went in to the fifth day, they'd cause some problems on a deteriorating pitch.

In BT's team.

Gilly had a batting average close enough to 50, an outstanding keeper who didn't score a run in the last 2 years of his career.

KR miller had a batting average close enough to 40 and a bowling average close enough to 20.

batting at 6 and 7

Warne at 8 with a batting average of 20.

Pretty solid batting line up.

Probably have Ambrose ahead of garner.

So many great bowlers to chose from.

Unsure how Gilly and Warne aren't chosen in every world 11. Warne is the best spinner of all time. Gilly the best batsman/keeper also. Just so clean.
Totally agree 100 %
