I commented a few dozen pages back that this case would be ideal for a Media Watch bake of Channel 7, but on reflection I'm not so sure - the production meeting might go something like this:
So you'll've heard about Channel 7 in Adelaide making all sorts of unfounded allegations about an AFL player...?
The sexual assault case? Or the AFLW bum tap one - surely what happens on the field stays on the field?
Not that one - anyway, the point is, Channel 7 have accused this player - by name - of sexual assault on air and across social media, despite the accuser not reporting it to the police and without any evidence to back it up - it's just her word against his.
Her word against his. No evidence you say - isn't this the guy filmed staggering about the street hassling a young woman? Looked like he wanted to steal her handbag too.
That's not the woman who made the complaint. Anyway, the point is, Channel 7 has "alleged" him as being guilty of sexual assault without any due process - they can't even use the names of pedos and rapists until they've been convicted in a court of law - but this young Indigenous man has to wear the slur even if nothing is proven.
Indigenous eh? Often the case, sadly - bloody AFL clubs, they pluck these kids from their remote communities and just throw them in the deep end of big city life - where's the duty of care, eh?
He's from Perth actually and Port Adelaide is renowned for its Indigenous support programs - they're planning on building an Aboriginal Academy and Centre of Excellence, although the funding is looking a bit dodgy with the recent change of government in SA...
"New Liberal Government Abandons Indigenous AFL Players" - I think we have our story! Can we work that Sally Zou woman in there somehow - she's thick as thieves with that lot isn't she?
