My god that Season 12 was pure dog shit. The Aussie bird finished 3rd and had about 8 minutes of screen time.

One person hunted a boar and that was it.

Complete waste of time.

Building the stone house was pretty decent. I rank that as one of the top-4 shelters in Alone history - alongside Rock House, Timber's lodge, and the in-ground house which one of the female contestants built.

... but yeah, it was the worst series in Alone (US) and Alone Australia history. I haven't watched the other versions, though I hear that the UK version was pretty bad as well. Alone S12 was even worse than Alone Australia S1 - AA S1 set a very low bar, but Alone: Africa sailed under it easily.

I put it down to a combination of factors:

• Participants who applied expecting to be filming in a cold climate, and were almost completely lacking in skills for surviving in an arid environment.
• Losing an unexpectedly high number of contestants early, due to a variety of reasons (2x failing to correctly cook the prickly pear, another due to depression), poor equipment selection (the guy who didn't bring a flint and was forced to stay awake all night tending his fire).
• Of the remaining contestants, one was an unlikeable influencer, another didn't have a ****ing clue about filming (the Australian), and the other was a quiet guy who just set about dominating.
• Sending them to a hunting reserve, where the animals are all well & truly aware of humans, are hyper-aware due to the number of predators in their environment, and know that humans are definitely predators.

Well summarised. At least the winner was great and created an awesome shelter. He also caught a massive fish right before the competition ended and got to share it with one of his 10 kids.

Apparently he caught a whole heap of fish near the end, and had a whole tree full of them - where he was hanging them to dry.
