Firstly, it looks awful and is bloody disgraceful.

It is a throw back to one of the worst eras in this club's history, and the club should not have dredged up this shit for supporters.

Secondly, the AFL have proved that they have no idea of what they are trying to achieve in regards to alternate match-day strips. They allow us to wear this on the park today.

In any major professional sport on the planet, the purpose of alternate match-day strips are to effectively distinguish the two match-day teams. As we can clearly see, the kit our Bombers are wearing today is just as effective as our primary jumper with white shorts in being able to distinguish these two clubs. The similarities remain, particularly in pack situations.

If the AFL can't regulate the area of match-day strips properly by implementing and enforcing effective rules on the issue, then let our club wear the same guernsey we have been wearing for over 100 years.

The AFL are a ****ing joke.

Big deal. In the end it represents EFC and that's all that matters. If people are going to tear up memberships and not go to games because of it then they aren't worth worrying about.

I don't mind it..
it's grown on me.
No massive change..same colour etc..
those red shorts are sexy! :p
They looked so much better when they wore them against Carlton last year though.. ;) )

I'm happy with it :thumbsu:

I'm not a fan of the red shorts in particular. With white shorts the away strip would look better... but then they would be too similar to St Kilda.

Perhaps Essendon's clash should have been almost all-black with a thin red stripe instead? Surely that'd clash with fewer teams again?

all those who are not fans of the red shorts are on the right side of 30 - for us on the wrong side of 30 the red shorts are simpy brilliant and are there to remind us of the good old days..... tony buhagiar, paul van der haar, simon madden with a beard, tim watson on debut etc etc....

thumbs up to the red shorts

Im on "the right side of 30" and i think theyre brilliant aswell, its just the jumper that i dont like.

I was actually very impressed with the alternative strip I thought it wasn't going to work but with the red shorts being added to it I thought it looked like it did a very good job of seperating the two sides today.

I know people arn't going to like it, but it is only worn 2 or 3 times a year and I think it serves th purpose it is attended to do while keeping the red sash tradition.

Up until todaY I was very dissapointed with the way Essendon had gone with there clash jumper. Even though it might not be the most striking jumper I have seen, it does the job that it is intended to do and that is the main thing.

We won wearing it. It looked much better being worn by Davey, Lovett and Ryder sprinting and flying with the ball than pretty much anything we saw last year. If superstition counts for anything, I would say that this is one hell of a start for the 'clash' strip! If we win every game like that I would just about vote for a regular adoption!!!

Seriously though, as a fan of Arsenal in the UK, I have to say that clash strips are no big deal. The League are a bunch of wimps though. They should have simply said to Essendon and Collingwood and anyone else who though they were bigger than the competition that they were at liberty to leave. People would get mighty sick of us playing the 'pies every week on a principle that is at best dubious.

Sure we and the 'pies have 'always' played in our famous strips and if it was good enough for a hundred years ago it should be good enough for us too! It sounds good untill I am also asked to give up other trendy fads like medication, sanitation, telephonic communication, motorized transportation and televised broadcasts of the game some 2,000km away. While not all progress is good, changes as minor as this one need not change the nature of support for a club we love so much. If the AFL had really had balls, this game would have seen us wearing sky-blue with a peach sash. Consider that and the black borders on a sea of red didn't look bad at all really . . .

I agree. Its about time the League enforced this ruling on away strips.....hopefully, they'll consider putting player's names on their backs next . Would really make the game look appealling to our slowly, but ever increasing international market.

To be honest they ran out in it and i thought pretty average but once the game started i was more focused on the game and wasnt too worried about the jumpers.

felt the same on both

Its as close to our normal sash as they can get. I think EFC have won a little battle with the afl over this issue.

It just looks like a bigger, bolder sash.....its not much diff from the normal gear.

Its better than having planes and bomber pictures plastered over the front and for one or two games a year...i can live with it:thumbsu:
