Theres been a few suggestions for alternatives to the Ansett Cup ie, an FA cup style competition.
I just thought of what i think is a good idea. It would be played in the same formate as the Ansett Cup, ie, for groups round robin then semis and a final.
However, the game would consist of only 9 or 10 players on the field. The interchange would have 8 players on it. And only players under the age of 25 are allowed to participate in the cup.
The advantages to this would be:
1. Young players get a bit of experience.
2. The field would be very open, hopefully, making for more exciting football.
3. The reason for the large interchange, is so that players are always fresh and full of running. So by the time the fourth quarter came, players wouldn't be virtually walking.
If a team didn't have 18 fit players under the age of 25, then the AFL may would have to compensate the team by allowing the next youngest player to play.
ie, if North had only 16 fit players, they would be allowed to send in their 2 youngest players over the age of 25. So North couldn't just send Carey and McKernan into the competition, they would have to send Capuano and Chandler (because they are the two youngest over 25's).
What do you's think of that idea??
