Sides who have defeated Geelong in a Grand Final.

2008 - Hawthorn beat Geelong in Grand Final
2009 - Hawthorn Missed finals.

2020 - Richmond beat Geelong in Grand Final
2021?

Well predicted.

Also of all of the 1989, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2008 and 2020* GF winners against Geelong only one has managed to win a single final the next season IIRC - WCE in 1993 beat NMFC.

*still slightly possible finalists at the time of writing

But wait there’s more …

I did some research to see what happened way back in the dizzay.

Richmond beats Geelong in the 1967 GF and doesn’t make the finals in 1968.

Collingwood beats Geelong in the 1953 GF and doesn’t make it to September the next year.

Collingwood beats Geelong in the 1930 GF but gets eliminated by Carlton in the first week of the 1931 finals.

FFS if not for the Eagles beating the Kangas in 1993, no team would have ever won a final in the season after a GF victory against Geelong.

West Coast have a father son prospect named Bailey Banfield who studies at Scotch College.
He is no relation to current Fremantle player Bailey Banfield who also studied at Scotch College.

Sounds exactly like the sort of person who would attend Scotch College.

The way to tell them apart is that one is known as Bailey Banfield the Third, whilst the other goes by his full family name of Bailey Banfield the Fourth.

1997 - Adelaide Crows win AFL premiership, easily beating St. Kilda which had no flag since 1966. Brisbane Broncos win Super League Premiership, comfortably defeating Cronulla Sharks which had not won a flag since entry in 1967.
1998 - Adelaide win successive premierships with victory over North Melbourne in the AFL Grand Final. Brisbane win successive premierships by beating Canterbury-Bankstown in the NRL Grand Final. Both runners up - the Kangaroos and the Bulldogs - wear royal blue and white jumpers.
2020 - Adelaide win the AFL wooden spoon for the first time, having never been anywhere close to last in their history, with their 1998 GF opponent North Melbourne second last. Brisbane win the NRL wooden spoon, and like the Crows the Broncos had never been in danger of finishing on the bottom of the ladder before now. And who finished second last in the NRL in 2020? The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Adding to the above:

2021 - North Melbourne and Canterbury both finish last.

The quarter time score in the Melbourne v Geelong match is:

Melbourne 2.3.15
Geelong 2.1.13

It's identical to the scoreline from this thriller in 2018:

And just like that game in 2018, there was a goal after the siren to win the match with a comeback to boot :thumbsu:

2018:
Melbourne led Geelong at quarter time by a score line of 2.3.15 to 2.1.13. Zac Tuhoy kicks a goal after the siren to win the game for Geelong after being four goals down.

2021:
Melbourne led Geelong at quarter time by a score line of 2.3.15 to 2.1.13. Max Gawn kicks a goal after the siren to win the game for Melbourne after being seven goals down.

Amazingly that’s Max’s second kick like that too against Geelong - Rd1 2018 he missed in the final minute against the Cats which would have won Melbourne the game.

To add to it

Both goals after the siren were at the City End of the ground

Two of this year's Brownlow favourites are Oliver Wines and Clayton Oliver. Both hail from Echuca, both have 'Oliver' in their name.

The last time Australia won 17 gold medals, Port Adelaide won the Premiership
Port managed to f*ck up the leap year omen of being top on the ladder after round 1 and going on to win the flag. Lets hope this one is luckier for them 🍀

Two weeks in a row during the Friday night game at Optus Stadium in September 2021 a player had a 5 goal and 19 possession game.

Tom Hawkins vs GWS in the SF.

Max Gawn vs Geelong in the PF.

In all 3 finals series the Brisbane Lions have played under Chris Fagan, they've played the eventual Grand Finalists

2019: Richmond (QF) and GWS (SF)
2020: Richmond (QF) and Geelong (PF)
2021: Melbourne (QF) and the Western Bulldogs (SF)

Great stat. It continues

Melbourne also got to that GF by beating Geelong in the Prelim
I noticed Geelong beat the Bulldogs by four points that year (in the Home and Away season). Please tell me that was from a goal after the siren.
