Melbourne and Essendon are the winners of the first premierships of the 20th and 21st century and played in the 2000 Grand Final
Just as a point of mathematical correctness
Melbourne and Essendon were winners of the last premierships of the 19th and 20th Centuries (1900 and 2000 - were the last years of their respective centuries)

Essendon actually won the 1st Grand Final of the 20th Century and lost the 1st Grand Final in the 21st Century.

So we should look forward to a premiership in either 2100 or 2101?

Both of Carlton’s recent finals win came in the expense of Essendon.

2011 was an elimination final against the Bombers

2013 was the year Essendon was kicked out of the Finals allowing Carlton to finish 9th that season who went on to beat Richmond

Eagles after losing a knockout final against Collingwood

2007 lost to Collingwood in SF in extra time by 19, 2008 finished 15th

2012 lost to Collingwood in SF by 13, 2013 finished 13th

2020 lost to Collingwood in EF by 1, 2021 finished 9th

Players recruited to Essendon under Dodorro.

Brayden HAM
Will HAMS
Kyle HardingHAM
DEVON Smith
Jake MelksHAM (also autocorrects in a phone to 'Melts HAM)
Michael Hibberd (nickname: PIGGY)
Heath HOCKing
Tom CUTler
Sam DurHAM

Is this part of the reason why Bachar Houli and Adam Saad wanted to leave the Bombers when they did? Adrian is obsessed with pork meat and is trying to recruit based on a particular personal interest.

In the Dees-Dogs GF, the injury subs, James Jordan and Laitham Vandermeer, they both wear No. 23.

Guess how long ago Dees coach Simon Goodwin played in a Crows' premiership.

1973 Richmond won the last Grand Final televised in black and white; 1974 Richmond won the first grand final televised in colour.

1973 was against Carlton who won the previous year and 1974 against North Melbourne who won their first premiership the following year.

Round 1 of the 2022 AFLW season is complete

Last year’s premiers Brisbane is last on the ladder and last year’s runner-up Adelaide is first at the conclusion of the opening round.
I’d say that would be a coincidence if they hadn’t played one another (ie. two games with results lending to the same percentage).

All this really indicates is that the two grand finalists played each other in an opening round fixture and one walloped the other. Hardly coincidental.

2 grand finals in the 1970's that were revenge victories against a team that beat them in the previous year's grand final had the same winning margin.

Rich d Carl in 1973
Haw d North in 1976.
Both won by 30 points.

1922 Fitzroy beat Collingwood in the Grand Final
2002 Brisbane (who Fitzroy merged with) beat Collingwood in the Grand Final

That would be even more impressive if Brisbane were to beat Collingwood in this year's grand final, 100 years on from the original.
