Wow really? Thats amazing considering those 3 were in the comp for like nearly 90 years together. Well over 90 including the Brisbane Lions.

There was one season - 1995 - that included Geelong, Richmond and Brisbane in the finals, but this was the Brisbane Bears rather than the Brisbane Lions. The Fitzroy Lions finished last that year.

If they did it in both 05 and 12 I’d call it a bit of a coincidence, though just 1 doesn’t really mean much on its own.

Yeah I thought it was just 2005, but given it is the Swans it's not super surprising. Did the Swans score over 100 in the 2006 finals series? I don't remember, but I don't think they did.

Yes they kicked 127 points against Fremantle in the Preliminary Final.

North Melbourne and West Coast have won 4 grand finals each (played in 9 and 7 respectively). Both have faced Hawthorn 3 times, Collingwood one time (if you count the drawn GF and replay as one meeting), and Sydney one and two times respectively. Not that amazing but yeah lol.

Probably been posted here but here it goes.

101 years ago, 1918 Grand Final: Sth. Melbourne defeated Collingwood by 5 pts. 100 years later they are defeated by 5pts in the GF.
100 years ago, 1919 Grand Final: Collingwood defeats Richmond by 25pts. 100 years later they beat Richmond by 25pts???

How about this one:

Since 1970 only 2 teams have won a Premiership without kicking 100 points in an Finals Series.

Hawthorn - 1971

Sydney Swans - 2005 & 2012
Good one. Probably sounds more impressive if Hawthorn isn't mentioned: since [insert year between 1972 and 2005], just one team has won flag(s) without kicking the 100 in the finals- the Sydney Swans. And the Swans did it in both of their premierships in that time span.

Ironically, the second of those two Sydney flags was against Hawthorn...

That would be too freaky if it comes to pass, but given all the coincidences and omens preceding last year's granny I wouldn't be surprised.

Hasn't happened yet, and may not, but I'm tipping us to be 2020 premiers. If so there'd be some nice symmetry to it:

92, 94, 06, 18, 20 (2, 12, 12, 2 years between premierships). Course I'm happy if that pattern is ruined by a gf win this year lol

Taking it even further, if we lose the GF to Collingwood this year, we'll have played 4 teams in 8 grand finals, with a perfectly symmetrical record against them.

0W and 2L to Hawthorn
1W and 1L to Sydney
1W and 1L to Collingwood
2W and 0L to Geelong

Not a coincidence but still one that amazes me.

Collingwood have won only two premierships in the past 60 years. Half the entire existence of the VFL. Magpies fans have only seen their team hoist the cup twice on television. That's only one more than the number of flags won by the Bulldogs.

Bearing in mind that less than 4% of teams are unchanged from week to week...

1921 - Richmond d. Geelong in first final * unchanged team * Richmond wins preliminary final * unchanged team * Richmond wins premiership

48 years later...

1969 - Richmond d. Geelong in first final * unchanged team * Richmond wins preliminary final * unchanged team * Richmond wins premiership

48 years later...

2017 - Richmond d. Geelong in first final * unchanged team * Richmond wins preliminary final * unchanged team * Richmond wins premiership

2, 12, 12, 2 is perfect symmetry. Another grand final win in any year would ruin it :thumbsu:
