Amazing coincidences in football

Luke Beveridge's first four seasons at the Bulldogs follows a first 6 round pattern of AABAAB:
2015: WWLWWL
2016: WWLWWL
2017: WWLWWL
2018: LLWLLW

If this is reduced to just the first 3 rounds, 2021 is the only year an AAB pattern isn't followed.
2015: WWL
2016: WWL
2017: WWL
2018: LLW
2019: WWL
2020: LLW

Amazingly, the AFL ladder is mirrored after round 7. This may not happen again this year:

One team is 7-0, another team is 0-7

One team is 6-1, another team is 1-6

Two teams are 5-2, two teams are 2-5

Five teams are 4-3, five teams are 3-4

The last time a ladder was symmetrical after round 7 was 1994, when only two teams had played every match. Everyone else had one bye due to the 15 team competition. I like symmetry :)

We've seen many many games which have been over-umpired so far in 2021. I thought it was an amazing coincidence that Mathew Nicholls was the umpire who looked the other way and called play-on 3 times in the final 30 seconds of play of the Sydney v Geelong game at the SCG.

0:32 Tom McCartin's 40m clearing kick from defence straight towards the boundary line with no Swans player within 20 metres. This is normally a free kick every day of the week for deliberate/not keeping the ball in play. "Throw it in" said Nicholls... Really?

0:10 Jeremy Cameron clearly marking a kick that floated about 20m while Nicholls was erroneously shouting "Not fifteen! Play on! Not fifteen! Play on!" WTF?!!?

0:04 James Rowbottom taking possession from the resultant throw-in, immediately tackled by Selwood, making zero effort to dispose of the ball, just flopping to ground and hatching it as time expired. Should've been holding the ball. "Time!" said Nicholls. Wow!!!

Three decisions in 30 seconds of play which normally would've resulted in a kick to Geelong.
A remarkable coincidence that Mathew Nicholls was able to view things differently and none of the other umpires stepped in to overrule him.

Like it. Now do the percentages!

After round 11 2019 the same phenomenon occurred.

Geelong were 10-1, Carlton 1-10

GWS, Collingwood and West Coast were 8-3, Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast were 3-8

Brisbane and Richmond were 7-4, North and Western Bulldogs were 4-7

Adelaide, Port and Freo were 6-5, Essendon, Hawks and St Kilda were 5-6

over umpiring is being polite,id call it cheating

Got a pretty weird one. Tom Harley and Luke Mcpharlin were some of the better if not best defenders in the 2000's. Both legends at Geelong and Fremantle respectively. However both of them scored goals with their first kick in AFL whilst being at their lesser known clubs.
Harley kicked his first goal while playing for Port
Mcpharlin kicked is first goal while playing for Hawthorn

Gary Moorcroft and Sean Smith have taken 2 of the greatest marks in the history of VFL/AFL football. Both in the goal square, both wearing number 29.

Shai Bolton tonight? Number 29. In the goal square.

The possibility of an all interstate team grand final has been a possibility since 1987. It took until 2004 to finally happen. It then happened in 2005 and 2006 and hasn't happened again. So only 3 times out of a possible 34 years and those 3 times were consecutive.
Victorian teams beat interstate teams to prevent it happening in 2012, 2014, 2016 by a combined total of only 14 points.

The 1988 VFA First Division Ladder finished with perfect symmetry as follows:

Coburg Lions 13-5
Preston Bullants 12-6
Williamstown Seagulls 11-7
Port Melbourne Borough 10-8
Springvale Scorpions 10-8
Brunswick Magpies 8-10
Box Hill Mustangs 8-10
Frankston Dolphins 7-11
Sandringham Zebras 6-12
Prahran Two Blues 5-13

Amazing if true. Even more amazing if we can win the next 3 (as unlikely as it is).
One of the better ones I've seen. Great work.

You can even take this a step further by drawing parallels with the first comparison. Not only were Brisbane knocked out in the finals in 1999 and 2000, they were knocked out in the PF and SF in those respective years. Although the order is different, the Lions have been knocked out in the SF and PF in the previous two years.

Carlton won the grand final against Geelong in 1995. The same year Carlton were breaching the salary cap
Based on what information? Can you give an actual figure? Any kind of official statement? Any findings of wrongdoing that year?

You want to pot someone breaching the cap in a premiership year, do it to Essendon, which amounted to $110,000 in '93.

Until then, just accept the fact the better team smashed you on the day.
