Injuries play a role as well. As an example I thought Geelong's 2008 grand final team was a good chance off the top of my head - I think Mark Blake played the least career games with the club with 99...they had a ridiculous number of players who ultimately played 200 games and only Milburn (31) and possibly Harley (would have been 29-30) on the wrong side of 30. No retirements from the 2008 squad either.

But then Josh Hunt missed all of 2009 with an ACL and Harley retired following the 2009 grand final (and Max Rooke may as well have done the same). So that's all it takes.
