I had a look at Nintendo Switch, listed for $399. They are usually $469. Checked JB Hifi and now $399 there.

Just coincidence?
Nope, JB also had a voucher for an extra $20 off today to make it $379

Another one for thinking Gerry can get stuffed.

Chief banned Harvey Norman ads on here due to his comments on homeless almost a decade ago for the record.

As far as Amazon is concerned I think there are better options at present.

Gerry also ordered timber sourced through illegal logging operations in PNG. Absolute turd of a human.

Seems like they are too late to the party. To get people to switch from their usual online retailers there needs to be something good in it. So far there just doesn't seem to be enough value there.
I feel people are more than happy to switch if the service is available and advertised well.

Of course they need to undercut the market though.

Do they sell anything you can't buy elsewhere?

As per my previous example great that I can buy a Nintendo Switch but I could just drive to JB Hifi that's 10 minutes away and do that. Amazon won't have it delivered to my door in that time.

If they aren't cheaper and just sell the same stuff as other places why are people going to flock there?

They ****ing took their time. I'm sure UK Amazon was a thing back in 2000.

yeah its not great at the moment, they don't have much of a range and they don't have prime

it seems most of the over priced stuff is third party sellers using Amazon as a web store like ebay

hopefully it will improve

for those bitching about Harvey Norman, Amazon isn't any better going by their track record in the US with their warehouse staff and delivery drivers, but hey if they're all assholes I'd rather give my money to the one selling it for the least amount of money

The whinging about Harvey Norman is due to the fact that Gerry Harvey has a whinge every time something doesn't go his way. Amazon represents competition, therefore is bad for Harvey Norman Australia. Zero ****s were given by Gerry Harvey when his company ran small local retailers out of business one by one, so stiff shit if a bigger fish comes along and threatens his empire.

The impact won't be felt until their nationwide distribution network is set up, but it eventually will. Physical retail won't die but it will definitely shrink, and the jobs Amazon makes will be far fewer than what it takes away.

for sure i have no love for Harvey, doesn't mean Amazon is any better a business

like i said they are all campaigners some just charge you less than others

They are all kents to some degree, but Harvey stands out because he complains about the others. He also whinges about online shopping, but when you're selling whitegoods and TVs the bulk of your cost base is the same. I struggle to see how I'm going to get a better deal ordering one fridge online and having it delivered is more efficient than a company buying container loads of them at a time.

I reckon the local content in a store like JB Hifi would be less than 1%. Selling electronics, whitegoods etc. is just an importing business with a retail arm.
