There is nothing like belief and momentum......up to this time we have played with the youngest and most in-experienced defence in the competition.... our forwards have been below par.... yet we sit with a percentage of well above 100 with a 4 and 5 win loss ratio.

Lots of luck needed.... but if can get a run on then watch out. I saw it in 95 what belief and momentum can do to aside.

If you go back to Brisbane in 2001 brisbane after round 5 were in the same position as we are now 4w-5l with a percentage of 103.5%..... then came round 10 when they too beat the premiership Favourites in Essendon at home and the next 3 years is History.

get on the train people...... Stopping all stations except East Richmond:D
East Richmond station gets a raw deal doesn't it?! A mate of mine is about to open a restaurant a couple of doors down from that station. He's an Italian who I converted to the Tigers (and hopefully his 2yo son) and his first game was the Geelong massacre in 2007 and he's stayed a Tiger. That's a bloke you can count on!

But seriously, what a great post. It's not our job to worry. That's a job for the coaching staff, match committee etc. Finally, I think they are doing just that. The players wont be getting ahead of themselves.

That's why I'm posting it now, not when everyone else will be posting it (assuming I'm right). Getting in early, risking looking like a fool in a few weeks when we lose to the giants
Gutsy OP but I like the cut of your jib! The night after the Hawks game (after watching the game live, then watching the replay), I had a dream that we snatched the flag this year. I've never in my life dreamt about a successful RFC. Ever. I was 3 when we last won a flag so have no memories of a truly successful Tiger team. I awoke the next day and watched the replay again. We were very good across every line.

The 93 Baby Bombers continue to come to mind when I think of the possibilities. I am trying to keep a lid on it and 'in the real world' that's exactly what I try to do. But this is Big Footy boys. If we can't be dreamers on here, where the f#*k can we?!?!

Well, the next big hurdles for a finals berth now are North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs.

Finals is looking very realistic now :)

You may of overlooked Adelaide on their turf after the bye . . . .

That will be a massive test!

Carn the Tigers!!!!
I'm still skeptical of our chances of making the 8, based on the fact that everything has to go our way, and I reckon 13 wins and % will be required to make it this year...

BUT, if we can get over the Crows, I'm on board :D

Our best football is capable of big results... if we get a real roll on, I wouldn't put it past us to take a scalp or two in the finals!

If we win all our games bar against adelaide, carlton and essendon, we will definitely make finals. The Carlton and Essendon games look all the more winnable after this week too.
In saying that, our biggest hurdles are those roos and dogs games, and freo in subi.

But as you can see from this weekend, we aren't going to win every game we should. Every team drops games. Otherwise the best team of the year would go through undefeated every year.

Problem is I have all of these games (the "danger games") - Blues, Freo, Dons and Crows - as losses. We have to win every single game other than these to make the finals. Drop one of these other games and we have to win one of the "danger games" just to be a chance.

Last year come round 9 we were tracking along quite nicely at 4-1-4 with a decent win against the hot Bombers and a draw (where we should have won) against the Saints. The team was looking up and playing with confidence, and we'd done it playing 6 of the previous year's top 8 (Carl, Freo, Pies, Saints, Hawks, Dogs).

Sound familiar?

Then the team showed it's youth and inconsistency, we won 1 of the next 9 games, including losses against Port, Lions, Melb & GC.

Now, there are obvious differences this year. We have a functional back line, The Mullet and haven't been blown away since round 2, plus we actually won against top 8 teams not in the middle of a rut or sliding.

While I live in eternal hope, the team hasn't shown the ability to maintain it for an entire season yet, and it would be a HUGE step for them to achieve this consistency.

But then again, I thought we'd drop it against the Saints, so thats a great first step.

Sorry guys, don't want to be overly negative, but my ambitions for the year haven't really changed. Improve, win more games, less blowouts, more consistency, don't drop games against the bottom 4. Finals would be a bonus.

Just out of interest, does anyone know if there will be any number of mid first round compensation picks taken in this years draft?

If so there could be a 4 or 5 pick gap between finishing 8th and finishing 9th.

While I would love to make finals it might be a nice little compensation prize to end up with a pick that much higher than otherwise.

Actually, following from this question does anyone know if the mid-round comp picks come in between positions 10 and 9, or 9 and 8?

We've largely met my expectations for the year so far, and just need to continue as we are and I'll be relatively happy with the season.

I want 2 things.
1) Nobody to consider us easybeats any more. We don't have to be favorites, but I want the top teams knowing they need to bring their A game when they play us.
2) End of year, next preseason, I want most people predicting that we'll be in the 8 (and idealy not just as a first round loser).

I'd love us to make the finals this year, both because I think it would be great experience for the kids and to avoid Newman getting the 'most games without a final' record, but we don't need to get there for me to think the season was another step forward.

Oh, one other thing...FTF making it's target...honestly, I thought when it was announced it was an 'aspirational' figure, but now, I think we'll make it (and hopefully more), which is another big step forward in our return to greatness.

Good question, I would have thought it would the comp picks would only be taken before finals sides get their 1st rounders, so between 8 and 9, but that's just a guess, does anyone know?

That is a good question... is it officially referred to as a "middle of first round compensation pick"? If so, that would imply right in the middle... between the standard first round picks of teams finishing 9th and 10th, now that we have an 18 team comp.

Couldn't find the thread I wanted so this'll do.

Ended up watching the Round 1 match vs Carlton during the down time and just wanted to say, can't believe how much Richmond have improved over the space of 9 weeks. We were fumbling handballs, slow on disposals, inaccurate with kicking, losing the hit outs, losing the clearances, not backing each other up... it was embarrassing to be honest.

Fast forward to this week against the Saints. Handballs were hitting their marks, players were backing each other up, disposals were quick and accurate, winning hit outs and clearances. It's a completely different side. There are still mistakes but that's understandable with a young and growing side, the difference is they're not expected mistakes or they can be attributed to great pressure from the opposition.

The rematch against Carlton in Round 18 is going to be huge!

Hate replying to myself but anyway...

Article in the age yesterday talked about how far Richmond could go this year and while I'm a but meh at what the article has to say there was something interesting that popped up. Richmond is currently the leading goal scorer in the competition for the 4th quarter of all their games this season:

This says to me that we're finishing games a lot better and have a lot more legs. Really impressive from the coaching staff, great stuff!

Without being too negative how much of that is slanted because of the belting we gave the Hawks and the shootout with the Saints?

We will most likely finish 6-10. All depends on the 50/50 games.

Matches vs. north, Melbourne and doggies are not all sodas, we are in a rich vein of form but I can see it dropping off at some point.

Collingwood, wce and Adelaide are going so well at the moment, unfortunately we will be ushering collingwood as the 2012 premiers
