National "Americanisation" of the AFL

Twice this week in separate articles on afl.com.au I have seen Collingwood referred to by the author as the "Woods", for example "Woods coach Nathan Buckley...."

This reminds me so much of nicknames I often hear in the NFL, for example calling the San Francisco 49ers the "Niners" and so forth.

Is "Woods" a longstanding Collingwood nickname that I am unaware of or is this just another example of the attempted Americanisation of our game?

Assume OP is a young man in regards to Woods.

Although even though I’m a big American sports fan I think AFL have gone too far with trying to ‘Americanise’ AFL.

Fair enough, literally had not read it before seeing it twice this week. But have heard of the Dons and Roys before.

I just hate how he tries to cross over his terms between sports, numerous times I have heard him say "from the paint" when a player is kicking on 50.
