Thanks for everything Monty. He probably taught a few players how to cook too, apparently he's a bit of a legend in the kitchen.

I reckon it wasn't even his performance that was keeping him out of the seniors, its the direction we are heading, building the youth and giving them senior experience. We are not pushing for a premiership so playing a 29 year old who won't be needed in the long run wasn't necessary. But like a true professional played out his contract and became a mentor in the 2nds. Whilst ultimately not doing what we originally intended, still a very handy acquisition.

intersting...sounds like he should be a coach. Should have transfers onto the coaching roster instead of taking cap space...would have been nice to keep power on board for a true retirement reward

You're certainly entitled to your opinion.

I'd just like to say that IMHO if Amon had switched to coaching it's unlikely that he would have enjoyed the same cameraderie with the younger players. It also then follows, at least to me, that he then may not have been as influential on them as he clearly has been. I think Amon being on the field with the younger guys, directing the play, leading by example and showing them the commitment and other attributes required to move to the AFL arena has been very valuable.

I wish Amon every success upon his AFL retirement - it would be terrific to see him playing with his brothers in the NEAFL next year.

It said on the NEAFL website last week that he was going back to NSW to play in the NEAFL Eastern conference.

You only had to hear what the players at the b&f said to realise how respected and liked Monty was. Every single one of them who received an award thanked him for his time at the club, and said he'll be greatly missed. I think that says a lot more about how influential he's been at the club than any outside opinion possibly could.

Wonder who for? GWS could do worse than grabbing him for their reserves, not like they don't have the list space for a year.
