Where did Latrell play and where did he move to again? ;)

Is he the perfect player? Absolutely not. He absolutely deserves to be in that team though. Comes up with the big plays when required more often than not.

You don't think it shows immaturity? Each to their own.

I don't think that was the entire catalyst for him not getting selected, it just wouldn't have helped.

No I don’t. Considering how many sportsmen actually DO demonstrate immaturity with serious blow ups, rants, expletive laden tirades etc.

For someone to make a light hearted reference to the situation, especially considering the blows he’s taken: his brother has been to jail and is a domestic abuser, May himself was speared from the Roosters and still we don’t really know why. He makes a joke about something rather than going into rant mode, and then backs it up with 63 tackles without a miss and a huge performance onfield.

Yeah, I’d say immaturity isn’t the word that comes to mind regarding his overall handling of it.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion on it.

I personally think the proof is in the pudding with the lack of selection but I doubt we'll ever get confirmation on it.
Ultimately it's entirely irrelevant.

Where did May play again? Read what you’re writing. I didn’t rate Mitchell that highly when he was with us. And I GO FOR QUEENSLAND.

That last sentence is exactly what makes me laugh however. ‘More often than not.’ It’s blatantly untrue.

Can he do it? Absolutely he can. That tackle the other night and the field goal were freakish.

They happen once every 6 weeks if his teams are lucky.

Well then you should be very happy that Mitchell has been selected, as you clearly don't rate him.

There are very little complaints here about him being picked though. Especially being picked where he should be playing each week.

I think like anybody that he has ability. But his reputation vastly overshadows how often he delivers upon it. At our club it was Manu more often than not who was producing. And as a Queensland supporter I’m glad they’ve picked Toia because he’s shown in his brief career all the hallmarks of being a really good defensive centre who can go with strong runners like Mitchell.

Quite what all this has to do with my original point is puzzling realistically.
If the jersey comment played a role in someone not getting picked for a rep side I would hate to see what the criteria is for everyone else.

Also, blatantly untrue is pretty funny. One might hope that was only hyperbole rather than a serious opinion.

You don't get to where he has if you only turn up once every 6 weeks.

Mate have a look at his numbers, and his team’s numbers.

‘Comes up with the big plays more often than not.’ If you don’t like my exaggeration, don’t make your own by suggesting he ‘makes the big plays’ more often than he doesn’t. What player does this? Nathan Cleary himself doesn’t do this, let alone Latrell Mitchell 😂😂

Mitchell has 1 try this year - from a dummy half play on full time and 2 line breaks in 6 games. This is supposed to be one of the most damaging runners in the game. He averages 96 metres a match. He tackles at 86 per cent.

No doubt whatsoever he has the freak play in him - the field goal, same as the one he did for us against Melbourne all those years ago, the match winning pass against us. But they’re not happening ‘more often than not.’

If they were his team would be winning more. He’d be doing more damage.

Least May has FINALLY owned up to his poor Twitch thing and vowed to win the support of NSW back. Maybe someone has told him “hey you nitwit just own it and move on”.

Why it took half a week to own it I’ll never know but good that now everyone can move on.

Moses is a decent ball runner too. Never a bad thing to have two kickers run the ball on fourth tackle too. You cant be sure Cleary or Moses will pass to be in the line for the 5th tackle kick.

Only slight issue is both are right foot kickers. I’m not a fan of not having a left kicker on that side but I do understand that Moses made it hard to not pick him

I suspect Moses will be kicking on rare occasions, i was more pointing out that if Cleary wants he can attack the line on fourth tackle knowing it doesnt matter if hes caught playing the ball for the 5th. QLD really dont have that luxury as much.

Take your point though.

hats why I think QLD made an error not having Dearden at 7. I really want Sam Walker back he’s for me significantly better

Did anyone else find it weird that the media were trying to push some kind of narrative that the Queensland NRL teams underperforming would somehow mean the Queensland state team would also underperform when they were interviewing Billy Slater yesterday? All the playmakers for the Maroons play for clubs outside of QLD anyway. What a weird stance to take from the media...

We manage to be underdogs every year, just a new narrative.

I would say our team on paper should get absolutely obliterated by the blues this year, I think the underdog status is actually earned.

Also on Trell, as a Queenslander he is ALWAYS a player that scares the shit out of me.
Clearly you shouldn't be, he only turns up once every 6 games. Pretty good chance you don't even notice him this series...

I think the fact that game one is at Suncorp and game two is on a neutral ground in Perth is huge for the series. Even though NSW look stronger on paper, they're really going to be up against it with the crowd at Suncorp next week and if Queensland snatch game one then suddenly the series looks far more winnable for the Maroons with a neutral ground game to come. NSW could be done before they even get the chance to play in Sydney.

Someone’s taken a pretty straightforward observation to heart.

He’s a player who does great things. Not a great player. That’s an inescapable fact.

I think it was Luke Parker who even in this actual thread summed it up perfectly by saying ‘he’s been one of NSW best players when hes been out there in the last few years.’

He’s played one game out of the last 9 origins 😂😂😂 and it wasn’t even that good: he ran for less metres than everyone else in his own backline and did less damage than all of them.

Hes like the cricketer that takes one wicket and everyone remembers how good a ball it is and forgets that the rest of the attack all took 3.

Yes there is absolutely no doubt that he is a player who when he gets it right, can rip the guts out of the other team. No one can argue otherwise.

But suggesting that at any stage of his career he has ever done that on a consistent week to week basis at any level for a particularly extended period is just, well, wrong.

That a player with his reputation has made one Dally M team of the year in 9 seasons surely speaks to his consistency irrespective of what you think about whether he’s been played out of position etc.

Since Mitchell started, Crichton has been in the TOTY at centre 3 times, Farnworth twice, Teddy twice at fullback (in a position stacked for talent) while he’s been matched by the likes of Justin Olam, Matt Burton and Joey Leiua at centre. Mitchell has made it once, at centre in 2021.

Again, no one is disputing what he’s capable of. It’s how often he actually does it that’s a myth.

Why are people underestimating a spine of Kalyn Ponga, Cameron Munster, Daly Cherry Evans and Harry Grant?

It’s probably not the spine, it’s the room that they’re going to be afforded.

I’m sure some bright spark will say ‘you’re only saying this because you don’t want to credit Mitchell’ or whatever, but it’s not players like Mitchell that worry me when origin rolls around, if and when he plays. Sure those guys - him, Crichton, Tedesco when he was at his peak, etc are always dangerous in situations but they’re made dangerous because of what’s built for them and that is usually on the back of what’s done up front and the simple fact of the matter is that Queensland doesn’t have a forward pack that can contain, assuming he’s fit, Payne Haas.

Much as I’ve flogged the Terrell May dead horse, that was a principle thing, not a ‘will it determine the outcome’ thing. If Haas plays close to his best, much as people rave about Carrigan he’s not in the same class, and Crichton though he has terrible hands and doesn’t defend well he is a good runner when he has momentum to run off the back of, that’s when opposition teams become threatening.

I don’t see Queensland being able to give their strike players the same room to perform.

Why are people underestimating a spine of Kalyn Ponga, Cameron Munster, Daly Cherry Evans and Harry Grant?

Well Ponga has done diddly squat in a month, and is Grant 100% Origin fit? He’s one game back after a hammy and he was hardly that good last weekend. DCE is a selection off the past not on form however it’s annoying Sam Walker isn’t fit. I rate Walker massively.

All are very good parts of a spine IF they are playing well, gut feel though DCE looked fairly cooked last year other than game 1 against 12 men. Hope I’m wrong but do feel it was a mistake not picking Dearden at 7 significantly better form
