Team Mgmt. An early crack at 2017 best 22

Hurley Hartley Ambrose at one end
Hooker Daniher Stewart/Bellchambers at the other for mine

Playing Ambrose alongside Hartley nullifies the advantage we get from having Hurley who is the most attacking chb in the league especially when you consider that we aren't stacked for line breakers off the HBF.

I'd much rather set up with BP: Francis FB: Hartley CHB: Hurley and FP: Stewart FF: Hooker CHF: Daniher. Then our depth is: Brown at FP and BP, Ambrose at FB and TBC at FF/Ruck.

As far as I'm concerned Francis is not suited to key position play at the moment so he's not even in the conversation at this point.

Ambrose gets a gig because his exposed form is ****ing sensational at full back and he's shown he can play on a variety of different styles of opponent, which in theory means you could release Hurley a little more anyway.

Without Hooker in this mix as a defender those 3 are the best combination in my opinion.

Best 22 Round 1 2017
B: Baguley - Hartley - Ambrose
HB: Gleeson - Hurley - Goddard
C: Zaharakis - Heppell - Parish
HF: Fantasia - Daniher - Colyer
F: Stewart - Hooker - McDonald-Tipungwuti
R: Leuenberger - Watson - Merrett
I/C: Myers - Laverde - Langford - Kelly

Really hope we hear some good news about Stewart today - if we do get him gives us more options up forward with Brown, Bellcho & Francis also and I think Hooker will play CHB and our team looks really balanced then;-

Hurley Hartley Baguley
Gleeson Hooker McKenna
Stanton Heppell Colyer
Tippa Daniher Zakka
Watson (Stewart/Brown) Fantasia

Leuenberger Hocking Z.Merrett

Bench from: Goddard Myers Parish Laverde

Serious question, who would those two be replacing in that back line?
Hartley would replace Ambrose and Gleeson would replace Stanton with Walla playing forward.

M: Colyer - Watson - Zaka
HF: Laverde - Daniher - Tippa
FF: Stewart - Hooker - Fantasia
R: Luey - Zerrett - Heppell

Look at who misses out though: Hocking, Stants, Belly, Brown, Dea, Ambrose, (pick 1) and someone else I've probably missed

A lot harder than I thought it would be , going to be tough year in selection :
B: bags Hartley Dea
He: tippa Hurley stants
M : colyer heppel zaha
Hf : Francis daniher goddard
Fwd :laverde hooker fantasia
Rucks : luey Watson zmerrit
Bench : parish Langford Myers kelly

with pick 1 coming in to add to players like hocking belly gleeson long redman Ambrose brown stewert etc. good to see the club building some depth

Gleeson Hurley Ambrose/Brown
Mckenna Hartley Hibberd
Zaharakis Heppell Colyer
Laverde Daniher Langford
Fantasia Hooker Walla
Luey Myers Zerrett
Watson Parish Francis BJ

Gleeson Hurley Brown
Mckenna Hartley BJ
Zaharakis Heppell Colyer
Laverde Daniher Walla
Fantasia Hooker Stewart
Luey Myers Z.Merrett
Watson Parish Langford Francis

- Colyer going to another level by occupying a wing for 80% of his time on the field and getting 25 touches a game would be very, very helpful to us improving and quickly
- Not entirely conviced Stewart's best work is closer to goal. My memory of him throughout 2015 was that he moved really nicely for a guy with his build, so he might actually be better suited to getting up the ground a bit. Despite what people are saying too, I remember his marking as being more than reasonable too. We'll see.
- BJ to a half-back flank at this hilariously early stage is a hilariously unnecessary must for me.
- I'm taking Conor over Baggers. We need pace off the other half-back flank and he helps out more on the kicking front too. Defensive side improved a lot over his short time in the back half.
- Brown for the moment, purely for intercept ability, but Ambrose is just about there too. If Ambrose and Hartley are locking down really well next year, I'd love to see Hurley moved into a third tall Scarlett/Fletcher type role.

B: Brown Hooker Kelly/Baguley

Gleeson Hurley Kelly
Zaka Heppell Stanton

Luey Hocking Zach

Myers TBC Tippa Goddard

Emg Laverde Francis McKenna Dea Bird Brown Goddard Howlett Francis Redman Parish

another crack...

Baguley Ambrose Francis
McGrath Hurley Kelly
Zaka Heppell Parish
Colyer Hooker Fantasia
Langford Daniher Tippa

Luey Watson Merrett
Hocking Goddard Myers Laverde - not completely happy with the bench, need one more player with a bit more run or even a second ruck. Hopefully our pick 21 defies odds and picks himself most weeks.

Thinking we take McGrath and he slots in nicely off half back. Hoping someone like McKenna can take over Kelly or hopefully Gleeson puts on some weight and has a breakout year.

Another hope is Francis to get fit enough to play third tall in defence most weeks.

Forward line likes very very dangerous. Midfield is strong and deep. Backline looks like it has no run, its relying on a first year player and an old man.

I don't expect our best 22 to change at all from now until the start of the season (no, not even with the draft) so mine is as follows:

FB: Baguley, Hurley, Ambrose
HB: Goddard, Hartley, Walla
C: Zaharakis, Myers, Stanton
HF: Langford, Daniher Laverde
FF: Bellchambers, Hooker, Fantasia
Foll: Leuenberger, Heppell, Z. Merrett

Int. Watson, Hocking, Colyer, Francis.

And... 22-25

Emg. Gleeson, McKenna, Mitch Brown

Mason Redman, James Stewart, Alex Morgan and Jake Long have a way to go before we consider them just yet. Bird, Howlett, Jackson Merrett are probably into their last season with the club. Kelly is in the mix somewhere, not sure where though.

Should look to rookie Aaron Heppell in the hope he can become the lockdown small defender that will replace Bags. Sam Heavyside also worth a look as a small forward; has serious potential that could be unlocked if he was brought up to an AFL list where footy was his sole focus.
