When I received a challenge offer from a chirpy fellow-SFA rookie named BLERN, I wasn’t sure what to think. I’m pretty competitive so was happy to oblige given our sides – the Bombers and Warriors respectively – were due to match up in a matter of weeks. After weeks of back and forth, we struck a deal.
Given the difference in positions, Tony Lynn 15 stood up as my champion – battling it out for highest DT scoreline in our Round 8 clash against the Coney Island Warriors. Energetic and memorable rookie BLERN was up against a man who is well known for scoring 151 in a Grand Final win from S24. Tough gig, right? Easy win for me, you would think.
Result of the challenge:
In the end, the rookie dominated his more experienced opponent, sending both my champion and I back to the cold showers to wash away the smell of challenge defeat.
Official challenge stats:
- BLERN (24d, 3m, 1G and 85 points) def. Tony Lynn 15 (12d, 2m, 1G and 35 points)
- Bordering on a training run, BLERN did a demolition job on Tony Lynn 15. - 99m from 0 to 99.
I have to add that my Bombers ended up winning the game, 118 points to 115 on their home turf. I also managed a solid 18 hitouts and 20 touches in my first full game at the coalface in the ruck.
However in this regard, I may have won the battle but my fellow rookie won the war. So here I am, bleating on about one of the sure favourites to take out the famed EKA and best Sweet FA rookie for S25.
I will stop short of issuing a warning to any of those wishing to taken on the Warriors midfielder in a challenge, because whilst he appears to have a comprehensive, complex rigging system in place to better every challenger he comes up against – the reality in the cool breeze of a South East Queensland’s Autumn Day is that the rookie known as BLERN is actually a pretty good Qooty player and… much as it may pain me to say – an active, valuable contributor as a poster who is upping the Sweet FA engagement.
All the best to you mate in the EKA stakes and on field for the rest of S25. May we meet again.
