Cool it man. I haven't been praising Leon or Macaffer all year. They both haven't had a great year thus far and have only stayed in the best 22 because we have been winning games. Now its time to drop them both because they both played very poorly, not only tonight but for most their games this year. They both don't deserve to be in the starting 22 next week.

Our defense was very good in the first half, Beams was very good for the most part but got a little goal-hungry after his fourth. But really, positivity after woeful displays does nothing for us. I'm sick of losing against the best sides, I want us to be the best side. Now that our window is wide open, I'm not going to praise half-arsery... it's time to stop taking prisoners and ****ing get some mongrel into us. Win the ****ing flag Collingwood.

its not the being annoyed part, trust me, im as frustrated and annoyed as any one, but dont go from one extreme to the next, its a long season, we lost, some blokes didnt play well, some did, some you didnt expect to played better than you thought they would, where is the praise for them?

like i said, im a positive person, i look at the positives in everything in life and not the negatives, whether that is right or wrong is your choice but ripping into blokes who have been praised for weeks is poor to me

its almost like reading the herald sun on this site at times

I'm with ya Stanley. Hysteria about to break out after our 2nd loss.

Leon will cop it in the neck. Was average and will be stoned in Federation Square on Tuesday at noon.

MM will be sacked on Wednesday and the sacking of Danny Stanley will be questioned on Thurs.

Side has plenty of scope for improvement going forward.

Like or not this game was a dress rehersal for finals football. Big crowd, big build up against a top quality opponent. There's plenty to be concerned about because the structures that worked so well so far totally broke down. Can't win the premiership if we can't match it with the big boys, and we've failed against 2 of them so far.

Not the end of the world really. I thought we played very poorly however at stages looked like we could have taken the game.

The game was really lost in the second half of the third quarter. We were asked questions and didn't have any answers. We then came out hard in the last quarter and dominated however we couldn't buy a goal... we panicked a bit and lost.

Overall though, we were right in it even though we were playing well below ourselves.

We get a reality check and can reflect on this until round 19.

Playing against the best sides exposes weaknesses in the team. Tonight our skills, poor kicking for goals and forward delivery were exposed. This is what happens when you are under great pressure and geelong did that. I definately know there will be some overreaction on here and these problems wont show themselves every week against lesser teams. But surely we can talk about them and hopefully the team learns from them so it doesnt happen next time we are under such pressure.

Overall we are now 7-2 and are tracking well, the world is not ending. Its only May and I would rather be dealing with these problems against Geelong now so hopefully in september we can better react.

we all know its about scoreboard pressure, 11 points up in the3rd q johnson runs in to an open goal , obrien runs in beams run`s in , missed all of them , that was the differents in the game. kick that FXXkin goal and i feel the game was won, we will get them next time

Close thread because this is where we are at.

We need to stop spruking about the wins against teams like Freo, Carton, Dogs, Ess, Melb who we should be winning games against and start winning games over the Cats and Saints otherwise stop wasting our time in September.

There is no way you could be confident in going into Sep knowing we have to play either the Cats or Saints in a game or 2 to even get to the GF.

We have alot of work to do and several changes are needed. Davis IMO needs a wake up call, maybe a move onto the ball to see if it is positional or form and if it is the latter then a stint in the VFL wont hurt.

I agree with you. I have been overseas for the last 6 weeks. I came back and tomight I expected a much better performance. They blew it in a big game - again! Bottom line. Too many passengers tonight. Poor skills and particularly kicking. Now I saw Leon Davis and I thought to myself when are you going to step up in a big game and show us something.? Well once again like just about every big game since the 2003 Grand Final - when it really counts - he went missing. Did he actually bother the scoreborad at all during the night. It is time for him to go back to the VFL and earn his spot in the team. I was also very unimpressed by Didak. As a small forward he should be kicking at least a couple of goals each week and tonight did nothing scoreboard-wise. O'Bree, well surely his time is up. Finally, I think that McCaffer might be hard at it but his skills are just so deficient that you cannot carry a player like that. Those kicks for goal in the last quarter. Well; simply appalling. Based on that performance, I cannot see this team going anywhere beyond; maybe a preliminary final appearance. Again. I mean we have been in the finals now in 5 consecutive years since 2006; provided we make it again this year. However are we really any closer? I sometimes wonder about the mental toughness in this team. When Geelong put the pressure on in the so-called Championship ( 3rd) quarter, we just could not throw an effective counter-punch. Same old same old! The wait continues! However I thought Ball and Beams were both great tonight!

I agree that it is frustrating that we again couldn't match it with Geelong (or a few weeks ago the saints). I also agree that Collingwood needs approach these "big games" with more mongrel and agro, we all know that we can play with that attitude (2007 finals campaign a great example). And that there is a pattern for a number of senior players to go missing in such games.

But at the same time, we have are still in many respects a young and developing side, which can only benefit from losses to teams of such quality like Geelong and St Kilda. And I think games like this aren't just a reality check for the team but also supporters who obviously have very high expectations for a team that isn't quite there yet (although they are getting oh so close). The boys have come a long way in the last 24 months and it is only May, a lot can still happen between now and September. I am not overly concerned and pretty sure that they will respond to the challenge and tighten on their weaknesses. The more exposure and experience the young players get and the more pressure there are on senior players to lead by example and perform consistently the stronger this team can become.
