Top Demon resigns
24 October 2002 Herald Sun
By BRUCE MATTHEWS

MELBOURNE has lost a key official as it heads into the five-day trading period, starting today, with a group of top players still out of contract.

Chief executive John Anderson resigned following a Demons board meeting to review the season on Monday night. His notice followed Richmond counterpart Mark Brayshaw, who quit the Tigers early this week.

Demons president Gabriel Szondy said Anderson, chief executive since 1999, also wanted to explore opportunities in other areas of business.

"He wants to change direction and expand his management career. It's as simple as that," Szondy said yesterday.

Anderson's impending departure comes as the Demons enter the trading period with Adem Yze, Shane Woewodin, Travis Johnstone and Russell Robertson not yet re-signed.

Anderson's resignation came less than 48 hours after news Melbourne could post a loss of nearly $1 million. "That's purely coincidence," Szondy said. "We haven't even announced our loss yet, so everything is speculation about that."

Thoughts?

One out of the box really, but a shame as he was a great CEO for the club.

Hopefully we can aquire someone who can fit into the position well, and we can move on in the future. Good luck to Anderson in the future!

How can you be so sure of this!

A confidentiality clause in his contract on signing off with the club, suggests to me that there were some funny goings on at the club at admin. level.....but that's nothing new at this football club...its just about stuffed!:)
