After watching his game today against the Tigers where he was one of a number of Carlton players running rampant through the midfield I was just wondering why you let this kid go. I know you have a great list and a pretty good midfield but Carrazzo has proven to be very versatile while at Carlton excelling in defense on small forwards and then moving into the midfield where at times he's played a lone hand. I know some have claimed that he has poor disposal by foot but lately I haven't really seen any evidence of that and the kid is very quick and just instinctively knows how to get the ball. What was the problem?

He spent his two seasons on the rookie list but had to contend with a lot of good young middies being on the senior list at the same time. Our hand was forced but in saying that I think hed still be playing majority of his games in the VFL for us.

He was a rookie and we had a lot of other smalls with poor to average disposal on the senior list. He never really looked any better than a good vfl player at Geelong but Carlton seem to be getting the best out of him.

Didn't he win an award for best player in Geelong's VFL team that year? If I'm right surely that would've indicated that something was there. Besides he was first pick in the rookie draft for us that year before Davey so you'd think he would've shown that something was there.

Ahh well, it's all history and hindsight anyway.

We have a history of cutting our VFL B+F winners. Infact it is the kiss of death.

Plus, I reckon it would have been the year we won the flag where pretty much all our young guns (Ablett, Kelly, Bartel, SJ, Hunt etc/) played 50-50 in the VFL/AFL so he wouldn't have had much competition for the award.

hey - we're the team that cleared Matthew Primus to Fitzroy...
Geelong actually didn't clear Primus to Fitzroy. He was drafted there from Norwood. We let him go and he chose to go to Norwood.

i stand corrected. i just remember him being on our list in the early 90s, then suddenly appearing for fitzroy and being decent. 2004 - 05 notwithstanding, Primus has had a good, if not brief career.

Carlton had a selection before Geelong in the rookie draft and took him with their first selection. I'm sure if he was still available by the time Geelong had a selection we would have picked him up again.

While he did stand out at the time in the VFL, no-one saw him as good enough to be drafted. Being picked up by Carlton has worked out well for him. I'm sure he made the AFL team not to long into the season and has had more of a chance at Carlton than he would ever have got at Geelong to this stage.

Actually he debuted in round 20 last year so it did take him a while to make the side.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing. Where exactly are Carlton on the ladder again?? Just because they start playing decent footy now doesn't mean we didn't do the right thing getting rid of them. I wouldn't play Carrazzo ahead of any of our young guys. Port dumped Tom Harley, Adelaide and Collingwood both let Sanderson go. Maybe they just weren't up to it then. Hawthorn let Shane Tuck go, and he's matured late.

If Carrazzo makes it, good on him, but I won't lose sleep about letting him go.

Agree, it's very easy in hindsight
