In my opinion i don't think it would be wrong to call Fat Andy unscrupulous and unethical.

And this is the guy who groomed and basically appointed the current AFL CEO.

Not to mention others at AFL House.

Birds of a feather!

Simply cannot reconcile how much these fat cats get paid and continue to get paid.

I don't think he was all that bad as CEO of the AFL but in his time the funds in the game really boomed, as did the level of wheeling and dealing with Governments, media companies and sponsors.

Football has always been involved at that level but every thing took off with the huge broadcast rights.

Demetriou was on to this early and no doubt as his time at the AFL continued he became more involved in these big business deals that so often have an angle.

He worked out a massive career achievement bonus that in reality only required that he did his job. Pretty much stole 2 mil from the game as far as I'm concerned.

You only have to look at who his AFL Commissioners were - Ron Evans (Spotless) and Mike Fitzpatrick (ANZ Stadium) to see that conflict of interest was no concern.

Made absolute sense that he'd join the Crown board just as Crown were taking over in Perth with a Casino right next to the new stadium.

But this Acquire learning stuff is right off the deep end. It's stuff that people need to be held accountable for.

No coincidence that Gills father in law is Brian Blythe former spotless managing director?
Makes it easy to negotiate the former contracts for $8 pies at the mcg

You clearly have no idea what pollies earn.
backbenchers get paid around $100-150,000 a year.

All I know is Abbott was stabbed in the back 3 days before a certain timeline. Because of that, he only gets $150,000 a year in entitlements when he retires. Had he lasted 3 more days, it would of been $600,000 a year in entitlement

Without a doubt he brought huge funds to the game, but at the same time made sure that his own pockets were very well lined as well for just doing his job.. I would go as far to say that his first priority was to always make sure he was first in the queue when it came to money even before football and what has happened at Acquire for me confirms this to me.

Not right. When he retires he will get a pension of at least $307,000 a year. If he took a lump sum of $1.5 million he would still get 150k a year.

Was it Demetriou that brought in the cash or the game itself?

Give any half decent manager control of the natural monopoly of nations favourite sport and its not hard.

He basically gave a rats arse about the integrity of the game and was soley focused on expansion and tv rights......and his bonuses.

This. Would love to know how deep he was in the Essendon drugs scandal. I expect knees deep...

I think he was the best leader we have seen in the AFL/VFL. Admittedly there have been some shockers. Kenneth Luke, the grubs Aylett and Hamilton and the abject Oakley. Lord Gill is not within a bulls road of Demetriou.

Yeah in an era where TV contracts absolutely skyrocketed in all popular sports worldwide, I’m not sure any exec in any sport can claim to be the reason for it.

correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't demitriou a board member of Melbourne casino after he left the AFL?
Absolutely and how do you think Perth got their stadium built right next to Crown Casino?.. The kickback’s for Vlad from the Packer family would’ve been bigger than Optus Stadium..

They’re all *in corrupt!!
