The disgraceful way he behaved over the Ben Graham/Puke Darcy incident has left me in no doubt that he is a self-important, incompetent, wrong-headed, pompous fool.

His defence of the indefensible (Jeff Gieschen) is just as bad. I believe that Andrew Demetriou will drive fans away from this great game.

As it happens "Captain Blood" I do know him personally, he is even more of a d*ck personally than he is professionally.

Get to know him personally and you'll find out what a name dropping, conceited, and thoroughly self-important pr*ck he really is.

Get to know him pofessionally and learn that you don't stand between Andrew and a bag of money.

That's not how I have found him. Matter of opinion I suppose

I hate to say it, but (gulp), I agree with Chris_Judd.

The penalties that Carlton got have absolutely nothing to do with where Carlton are as a club right now. They were bottom before they even got penalized.

What kind of penalty would it be, if they got a penalty which did not inconvenience them in any way? They couldn't get a penalty to send them to the bottom because they were already there. The only possible way to penalize them for blatant cheating was to stop them from going up as quickly as what they could.

At the time I wasn't convinced Carlton should lose their priority pick, because of the precedent it set, however, clearly, they needed to be given a penalty that was enough to stop them, and others, doing it again. Losing one draft pick probably isn't enough. Adelaide did it with Angwin and are still doing pretty well.

Goddard and Wells look pretty good, but they would have had 1 tenth of bugger all effect on Carlton this year, except for giving their supporters the warm St Kilda 'we are **** but we might not be forever' feeling.

Chris_Judd, how could we have been further punished. You cant be excluded from the draft for more than 2 years, and if the fine was any higher then it was, the club would have folded. Notice how long the other 15 audits are taking.....notice how every week Demetriwit leaks something to Fatprick, to Caro....talk about being a commission which is meant to be independent and not influenced by what someone writes in the paper.....

Port01, check my post dude, NOBODY has said Carlton are where they are now due to the AFL's penalties. Chris-Judd just pulled that out of nowhere and worked it into the discussion.

ummmmmm no.. you said "I don't have much time for him given his "come clean about the lot and we'll go easy on you" trick."

So by saying that you are saying you don't like Demetriou because he said that and you expected to be given less penalties than what you did..... when the real truth is by you coming clean about the other blatant cheating you probably saved your club from missing out on draft picks for the next 5 years along with fines that would have declared Carlton bankrupt.

...

Idiotic post.

"I don't have much time for him given his "come clean about the lot and we'll go easy on you" trick." means just that. I have little time for him as he was extremely underhanded in the Carlton affair and milked as much as he could from us under a guise of leniency in order to hit us even harder.
In no way does that sentence translate to "We're where we are due to the penalties". No matter how hard you try and re-word it.

1) You can't be excluded from more than 2 drafts, so I doubt we'd have been excluded from 5.
2) The fines basically did send us bankrupt. The members and players had to essentially had to bail the club out.
3) If we hadn't have come clean all the AFL would have had is a $70k payment to O'Reilly to make him retire. Enter Demetriou and his 'come clean' trick.

Think before you post.

Next.

What part of this do u not understand? You said it again... you don't like him because he milked as much as he could from us under a guise of leniency in order to hit us even harder. See... your statement says exactly that... you think that he hit you harder than you expected.... which is just crap. If I go and shoot someone and then go give myself up does that mean I should only get 5 years jail instead of 20? Carlton got all they deserved and probably less.

...

Yes. If you gave yourself up and pleaded guilty you probably would get a lessened sentence.

I'm not bothering with this thread any longer.

By all means keep trying to read between the lines until you find something that shows me blaming the AFL for us finishing last this year though. Best of luck.

Cheers.

You are all going on the AD did the right thing with Carlton's penalties that is debatable.
But AD in the press conference said there was to be an audit on the rest of the 15 clubs within 12 months.
The AFL is even to gutless to either charge Essendon or drop the Matthew Lloyd & James Hird internet payments

As for Carlton's penalties there finished as of the end of the National Draft 2003 we will move forward next year it will take 2 - 3 years IMO.

You can't keep the powerhouses down like Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood
