Amazing how we were all talking about how good his kicking was esp i50 in the first 2 years

How long before mitchell starts spu...... *watches saints game again.... wtf!!!
His kicking up to 2016 was good but then went down hill. I really think that sides prefer not to tag him but rather just apply a ton of pressure on him when he gets the footy.

Gaff hit 130 in SC week 1. 92 against the saints. So not all that bad.

A lot of it comes down to something that draft watcher Quigley mentioned pre draft. Gaff can kick long- he just rarely chooses to, rather playing within his strengths. At the time it was thought that that would improve within a professional environment; in many cases he has, just not to a level where he is really threatening with his kicking.

The issue now is that because he gets so much of the ball it has become a pattern with lots of evidence- opposition players can telegraph his kicks because he kicks to the same spot so often. It would come up in every review I reckon.

Kicks less than 40m to contests for that exact reason- as such his disposal efficiency is down.

Still, the guy runs to provide an option again and again and again. the amount of times you see him run to get involved 2-3 times in a play is fantastic. He's an 80m player, just not in a run 30m/kick 50m kind of way.

Can he actually kick long? I don't think he could kick it 40m if he was lined up infront of goal tbh.

it also matters how the rest of the midfield plays. He was a horrible kick for majority of the year last year but the back end of the season when our midfield dominated hawks and crows, his kicking was much better and he really put the oppo to the sword. kicking IMO decent v north but in a more of a tight tussle last week he very ordinary.

Definetly. Get a guy out in space- gaff hits those targets 99/100. When there is that pressure though- or where players up the field are not moving to provide an option up the field- his kicking does suffer.

But he's not alone in that. Even the best kicks struggle with that at times.

its an are he needs to improve. He is spending more time inside now than ever and is probably closer to congestion than a lot of wingmen in the comp as welll. His hands and creativity really needs to improve. Good players can absorb pressure and dish it off. Just needs to watch sam mitchell.

Another thing that has dropped off for gaff is his inside 50 entries. Gaff at his best gives you 4-5 good inside 50s but that's dropped off in the last 18 months. As a winger you need him to lift in that area.
