given that DJ was an onballer/forward and Roo started as a back pocket in those days.........I'm not sure it would have mattered.. ......

Could you see the possibility that Chris Mac may have been forced to move back to a half back flank (allowing for the younger DJ to play on ball) and Benny Hart to that back pocket earlier, hence no room for Roo.

I am not saying that would have happened but the possibility existed for that scenario to occur.

no..

Yep - he won AA selection in just his second year (1994, I'Change) coming out of defence.

Even just a few years later when DJ did arrive they were able to play in the same side no worries.

ripped Tony Hall a new one in the 1993 Elim..........:D .........

they say Hally was still flinching in the PS drills on Fat Max oval in 1994 whenever the Great Man brushed past him..........:D

ok maybe not 30 and more like 20 out but not the goal square. :thumbsu:

I was at that game, at that end, and from memory he took the mark on a 45 degree (maybe greater) angle about 5 metres (if that) out from the goalsquare.. so probably about 10 to 15 out when he kicked at the goal.

I was DEVESTATED when it missed. Definitely went along way to costing us the game. We'd have a losing record in prelims now wouldn't we?

Andrew was a lad, he never in a fitness way took footy seriously enough.

His instinct to find the ball in traffic or in a flowing play was like I never seen, his handballs second to none and his foot skills superb.

He had a unique football brain, it was a pleasure to see him play even when he played for North against my Norwood.

The rigours of profesional footy seemed to be too much as he lacked the leg power and stamina in AFL so it appeared.

Darren went further as a result of a better athletic body, they say when Andrew moved to Norwood he got into the "beer and pies" too much.

As an opposition supporter, I always loved watching Andrew Jarman play. As has been noted previously, his hand and foot skills were outstanding, particularly under pressure and his vision was excellent. However, for the pure lair factor (which I love), he was brilliant! How good was it when he used to blow kisses to a feral crowd who were standing to a man and absolutely giving it to him at the end of a game! He'd walk off after an Adelaide win, waving to the rabid lunatics and blowing those massive air kisses at them, only serving to infuriate them more! Classic! :thumbsu:
