ACL Feb 2012 - Playing round 23 September against the Bombers after comeback. Looks likely to get some finals action.

Jason Winderlich - ACL Early 2011. 5 hammies later, not playing round 23 against the Pies.

Brent Prismall - ACL late 2011. Whatever setback later, not playing round 23 against the Pies

Pretty much sums up where we are at.

Some players recover better, aren't injury prone.

Not really sure what that "sums up". Unless you're looking for simple answers to complicated questions.

It's a fair question - And one that frustrates me no end - We did well getting Dempsey back - but Prismall and Winderlich is disappointing.

I pointed out in another thread that clubs are aiming to get players back 8 to 9 mths after an ACL - We got Dempsey back after 10 mths - Tick - Windelich was in fact 14 mths - Prismall was 11 months.

Collingwood got McAffer and Krakoeur back after 5 months - I wonder if this will be the way of the future - I remember Tony Liberatore got back after 16 weeks.

It has already been reported that Winderlich was flying prior to Christmas last year but twisted his knee in a mishap at preseason training. In conjunction with that the hamstring injuries following that incident which are reportedly due to his running style (long strides) have compounded his delayed return so fair to say he's had a shit run of luck.

No idea about Prismall but I'd say his AFL career is as good as done unfortunately.

Why is Prismalls career done? He's done nothing wrong this year

February to September is not 5 months mate. But that said, this is still bloody quick. Let's just wait and see how he goes before we hail it a success, although I very much hope for his sake it is...
Everyone was quick to hail David Schwartz a hero for returning in crazy quick times (my memory is faultering 13weeks?) after his first ACL and then again after his second. David Schwartz taught everyone a valued lesson in rehabbing from ACL surgery.
But the rehab has come a LONG way from those days, I think 6 months will become a realistic target, depending on the player. Pretty sure there are soccer players returning in this timeframe.

I don't understand why we never tried LARS tbh. Anyone have a decent explanation?
LARS has worked wonder for Brent Staker hasn't it?! And Rodan - how many times has he re-injured his knee? And it also set Malceski back a couple of years.
LARS was flavour of the month a couple of years ago but the majority are steering clear of this option now as given what has happened with players recently undergoing LARS

Can't believe no one has mentioned this yet.
Krakouer had a slightly different procedure than licka, priz and winders.
Normally hamstring grafts are used (they used to take the mcl and use to replace the acl as the old man found out back in the day) but Krak had a dead person's acl transplanted into his knee and had no hamstring graft. Which is why he hasn't had hammie setbacks.

I find this incredibly curious. Would love to know more about this. One thing's for sure, you can't replicate the properties of an ACL any better than with an ACL.

Guys Dan Menzel did a knee in he finals , 9 months later he was back ready to go. Two quarters later he had done the other knee. Some are lucky , some are not and just cause Krakouer is back for a game it doesn't mean he wont fall over next week.
