News Andrew Lovett signs with East Perth

"Sacked St Kilda recruit Andrew Lovett is set to resume his Australian Rules playing career in a fortnight after agreeing to join Western Australian club East Perth.
East Perth, who beat several VFL rivals to secure Lovett, hopes the nippy midfielder will suit up for their May 29 WAFL clash with South Fremantle at Medibank Stadium.

Lovett, who was sacked by St Kilda in February after he was charged with rape, started his career with East Perth Royals before being snapped up by Essendon via the AFL's rookie draft.

The 27-year-old played 88 games for the Bombers before being offloaded to St Kilda for pick No.16 in the national draft.

Lovett, who is facing two rape charges, is involved in ongoing legal proceedings with St Kilda, the AFL and members of the AFL's grievance tribunal.

While Lovett will technically remain on St Kilda's list until the end of the season, he was cleared to play in State ranks by the AFL, the players' union and his club.

He is expected to officially sign with East Perth on Monday."


-So if he gets found not guilty for the two rape charges do we look at him for next year. Quality player but is it too soon after Ben Cousins to have another high profile player with a troubling past. I would be happy to have him. 27yo could get 4 years around the same time we're looking at having a premiership window open up.

i really dont think WCE will look at him though, considering our past and shaky relationship with the AFL.

We definitely won't go for him. I think Freo should go for him in the preseason draft, and no not just because he's another Bomber discard. Their chance for a premiership is to try and load up now with the big guys still dominating, picking up a guy like Lovett for next to nothing would give them a scary midfield. Hill and Lovett on the wings... shiiiiiit.

I bloody hope we do. His charges are hardly St Kilda's fault and I don't think it has been caused by their culture, or Essendon's for that matter. Surely it reflects only on him (and maybe parenting, but that's another conversation for another day)

What about A.Krakouer?

I never rated him when he was at Richmond but apparently he's now favourite for the Sandover. Might have something to prove. I'd prefer Krakouer to Dazzla and a few others.

Lovett has been in a good paddock , will be good for East Perth but should handle with care .

Seems Freo have inherited our past culture problem ... Johnson under police investigation for drug related incident on the weekend , losing to Collingwood will do that to you

Krakouer: Maybe, convicted of GBH if memory serves me correctly but having served time for it, may be less likely to risk re-offending.

Can't see us taking either tbh but I wouldn't mind Krakouer.

I wouldn't go anywhere near him.

Krakouer is a different story, he would be good value and is turning over a new leaf.

haha, well i meant they're the same when you look at them as a recruitment option. not in terms of violence vs rape.

i.e. they both have baggage that we dont need and kraks was/is an average player at best.
