Is supposedly going to be traded for too many off field indiscretions.

I know he fails the character test big time but as a footballer, he does provide that magic and pace that only Eddie seems to come out with now and then.

Always cuts us up when we play the Bombers.
 
Andrew Lovett?

According to ch 9, will be shown the door by Essendon and put up on the trade table.
He will be 26 by the end of November but still has probably 4 or 5 years left in him.

He is a player I have always enjoyed watching, (Even though he kills us every game) and his dashing pace and natural instinct for goal is something we could certainly benefit from.

He could assist Eddie as another crumbing forward and help ease the attenton off fev.

Does anyone think we should go for him?

If Essendon "show him the door" they can hardley put him on the trade table.

"We don't want him"........."But hey......we think he is worth a second round pick"

Will go in the PSD if they chop him and probably wouldn't make it through to us............I would want to know the reasons why he had been "shown the door".....because with the group we have coming through I really don't want to get any "bad seeds" if we can help it, and also I think our needs could be better filled this year with other players.........such as Lade.:thumbsu:

I'd love him to come home!!!
Not sure how many know this but Lovett played reserves for us. He played a game at PP one day wearing 44 and absolutely tore it up.
I still have the memory etched in my mind and remember telling all my mates as they arrived at the game that we'd found a superstar.
He then disappeared and went and played for Heidelberg for 2 years.
Good player bad man.
Hard call but worth the risk if he's cheap.
 
If Carlton want to go forward i would definitely turn my attention to him, i would get him in a heartbeat...
Can play forward and midfield?
There would be no reason why we shouldn't go after him to be honest, barring his off-field discretions he would be a very good player for us.

I remember seeing him in the reserves. That was in the days before we linked up with the Bullants & used top-up players in the reserves to make up the numbers. His pace made him stand out, but what made him stand out even more was how skinny he was back then. He would've made Notte from the Eagles look obese. I remember thinking at the time his size would keep him out of the AFL.

Also, you cannot compare Lovett to Didak. Lovett is dispensible and not his team's best player. He has not delivered enough for all of his 'magic and talents'. He is the same age as Didak-both 25- yet one is arguably the best HFF in the league, whilst the other is an average player at best. Silly comparison.

Anyway, I have no doubt alot of clubs will be interested in Lovett and he will come pretty cheap too. Nothing more than a second round pick maximum. Could be a good fit with the Blues as another crumbing option.

Regardless of his ability, he's too flashy for mine, and if it wasn't for his pace, he'd be very average at AFL level. We aren't the quickest list going around, but we aint the slowest either. Judd is quick, as is Simpson, Armfield and Betts.

I agree that we need speed, but Andrew Lovett isn't the answer.

Your previous post wasn't up when I started typing so I thought I was going to be the first poster in the thread against the idea, which is why I treaded so lightly and based my assessment on on-field credentials instead of baseless personal taste, needless to say I appreciated your taking care of the other side of the argument in the background :thumbsu:;)

FWIW we could find crumbing forwards cheaper -by elevating Ellard (4 Gunslinger!) and Joseph.

Or just get WC to throw in LeCras (for Tigs) with Kerr and JK while we have them bent over we might as well make ourselves at home (Glass, Cox, Brown, Butler :D).

I know your a Varcoe man, but there's no way Geelong would give a player number 5 only to trade him a few years later (tell me you can fault that logic) but Djerrkura is a very similar player (was sublime in the wet about 2 NAB Cups ago?) is a year younger, not getting a game and the spelling of his last name has 'icon' all over it, would perfectly compliment our cult hero Eddie :thumbsu:
 
Lovett is a soft rooster if you saw him refuse to shepherd for a teammate tonight and hung his teammate out to dry in a two on one contest. Lovett lost possession when he was run down and didn't back up for a second effort when he has the pace to get the next contest. He appears to be all too happy to get by on playing a good game every now and then to keep up his reputation up as a matchwinner.

I judge so called good players on how they respond and play when a side is getting belted.

Lovett is average and a front runner.

Hopefully we take this leak as a warning and stay away.

When all things are considerd, Lovett is a pile of shite.

If we're supposedly to play him on a HF flank, who do you drop - Russ or Houla ? Or if he's to go on a wing, do you drop Simmo or Gibbs or Walker or Grigg for him ?

Lovett's a typical front-running hack who's no value when it counts. No thanks.
 
He has too may negatives that outweigh his flashy brillance that he displays from time to time. We need to nuture a positive culture at the club with Judd as the statesman, l dont want any outside disturbances.

Lets keep using Essenscum as our retirement home for our past players and not vice-versa.

Let that sheepdog go to the Dockers (Essenscum Nursing Home) - perfect match or a match made in heaven with him and Jeff Farmer.

NO.......I know we're getting our arrogance back, but do you really think we are soooo much better at player management the the Bombers. After all they have much more experience managing indiginous players than we do. So, if they can't settle him down what makes ya think we can.
NO, NO, NO .....back to Heidelberg for him. He can play with Normand & Angwyn or what ever his name was.
 
Hmm, no thanks. He might have always tore us up but I've never seen him as a true star or anything outside of that, and I feel we can look at better more suitable options.

Not to mention his attitude. Agree he'd be a perfect fit for Collingwood! :p
 
There are also a couple of decent small forwards in Jetta and Walters playing junior footy this year in WA that I would hope our recruiters would have a look at.

Having one of these boys in our forward line with Betts and maybe Houlihan would see our forward line oozing class for years to come.
