Who are these kids??
Schulz - Hasn't really been that impressive, good riddance! Not going to play in a premiership side!
Peterson - Played a couple of good games at Hawks, have a feeling he will be dropped next week or week after. Hawks are depleted!!! Once they get some players back, he will be in the 2's. Therefore, won't be part of their premiership side if they make it in next 1-2 years.
Raines - Playing ok footy now, but really nothing special?!!? He got ahead of himself at Richmond and in the end, does anyone see him playing in our potential Premiership team in the next 3-5 years?
JON - Can't get a game at WCE and they are struggling...

who else is tearing it up?

Agree with all of this Azzle. Peterson looks good, but question his abillity to step up from fringe 22 with the Hawks. If he does, he could be special.

Back on the topic of Raines, nothing I saw last night suggested we erred in trading him. Sideways chips, and short handpasses improved his efficiency stats. Saw him try to take the man on and fail a couple of times. Seems he is still trying to get that out of his game. See him as an 18-22 ranked player in Brisbane's line up.

And if he stays and becomes a consisent member of that team for the next 7-8 years, I will have no regrets. He will never be a star and we traded him for a draft pick, so we didn't lose him for nothing.

Freo wouldn't be upset they traded Staker. West Coast were pleased to get rid of Seaby. Like Raines, neither of these guys are matchwinners but are contributing to their new clubs. Good on them.

Some supporters just need to suck it up and stop looking backwards.

Raines is playing at 100% of his capacity ATM, it doesn't get any better than your first year at a new club for types like him.

He's still a horrible float punt kick over 25m+, or just goes short and safe to nowhere...transferring all responsibility to a teammate...over and over again.

Raines is a player that is simply not good enough to be better than the third best small defender or interchange depth (even Proud played last night) in a decent side. He's never going to break into an AFL midfield, or be in the best two small defenders on a decent list.

We needed him to become a top-two small defender within the club (he was never going to be a mid), but he just didn't have the skills, ball winning or defensive mongrel to ever succeed at the role.

Hardwick realised (as Wallace and Rawlings did before him) that Raines could never progress beyond being a junior loose defender who can't hurt the opposition because his disposal and decision making is way too poor.

That junior loose defender role is not permanent, it's an easy landing development spot for a future rebounder/midfielder - Connors was doing it for us ATM. The player given that role must progress into another, or they'll surely end up where Jason Cloke has sooner or later.

24 touches 83% efficiency awsome game.....one that got away

lol at the 'one that got away' comment. The fact that Raines has done well at another club just illustrates the ineptitude of Richmonds off field set up. It begs the question that maybe Richmonds so called abysmal recruiting (see Tambling/Franklin etc) may not be at fault, but rather the rot is on the Richmond football clubs inability to develop their young talent. This may explain why they have been the cellar dwellers of the AFL for well over a decade now. Just my 2 cents.

Your 2c are worthless - maybe the recession is to blame. Raines isn't doing anything he hasn't done at Richmond, and we couldn't afford to carry him any longer. Of course he looks better in a better team.

I can guarantee that trading Raines won't be giving any Richmond staff nightmares at the moment.

Yep and Leigh Brown consistently getting a game at Collingwood illustrates the superior development program that they have over North.

Effeciency means as long as it gets to the next person? Does it matter what kind of pressure he is put under?

I saw the same old raines

It might be time for people to turn the volume down on their TV...seems to be a trend of peoples "opinions" coming from what the commentators say on the night.

...good call...:thumbsu:...

All of those players were consistently good at VFL level. Raines was struggling in the 3rds.
:thumbsu: with this. If Raines was so obviously above playing at Coburg then you'd think he might have ended up in the Best players occasionally. Checking VFL records he played 10 VFL games last year for 1 game in our best 6...and that was 16 August right near season's end. I have no issue with him going and glad to see him doing well for brisbane. We get Matty Dea for the pick in return. Very happy with that - despite a tough debut, confident he'll easily surpass Raines as a footballer

Just think of it this way. If he was in the side today would he have had 83% efficiency? No.
If we kept him he would be in the same boat as someone like King and White.
Also he gave away a lot of FK's when he was exposed one on one. Good decision by the club on this one :thumbsu:

I watched the game tonight, still no regrets for me. As has been said, looks better than what he is in a good team. His high efficiency is due to him chipping the ball around and taking the easy options in the backline/on the flanks. He still has the odd brain fade sometimes and IIRC at least of them directly resulted in an opposition goal when the game was on the line tonight. He might be handy for them as a role player/depth player but he was going no where at Richmond. We made the right decision.

about as much sense as Ive heard from you for a while barszey, keep it up..spot on

For those interested, I had Andrew Raines on last night for a chat about footy, his time at Richmond and what he has been up to in recent years!

He is really well spoken and was very open and honest about his injuries as well which I had never heard much about before until last night.

Link below for anyone interested.
