He's not one that got away at all, he was shit for us and not helping us at all. Making it at another club does not mean it was a bad decision to off him.

We got Dea for him, so I guess we get a glimpse of that trade value tomorrow. I hope we are left with no regrets.

IIRC Raines was that good for us in the years we were playing half decent footy, once we turned to shit so did he. Be interesting to see how he goes when the Lions start to struggle.

average player in a good team so therefore he looks good.

made the right call sending him off, had a bad attitude demanding senior games without putting in the effort. lousy prima dona...
Exactly.
Will say it again...I am so glad to see himfar away from our football club.

I watched the game tonight, still no regrets for me. As has been said, looks better than what he is in a good team. His high efficiency is due to him chipping the ball around and taking the easy options in the backline/on the flanks. He still has the odd brain fade sometimes and IIRC at least of them directly resulted in an opposition goal when the game was on the line tonight. He might be handy for them as a role player/depth player but he was going no where at Richmond. We made the right decision.

Should never have traded him, I have no idea why he wasn't getting a game when he was fit last year. He is easily in our best 22, watch him go and have a decent career with Brisbane now.

he would have had a decent career at Richmond if he stayed, many players have had decent careers at Richmond the past 10 years. The last thing Richmond needs are blokes hanging around having decent careers. Right call was made, move on dead wood and get some kids and get them playing better than decent footy, perhaps even successful footy.

I disagree with that, Richmond needs all the decent players it can get at the moment. Raines was clearly good enough to play in our side and was still young. Maybe he had personal issues with the coaching staff, not sure, but ultimately he is a better player than anyone we have rebounding from our back 50 at the moment (except for Newman).

Don't make the judgement of whether we should have got rid of him based on his form this year or next, base it on where he's at in 3-10 years time and the players we then have in a back pocket . Because ultimately that's where he would have played , would have taken a developing players place and thankfully we are solely looking at getting the best side we can in that 3-10 year time frame .
He's best footy will be in the next 2 years and there after will struggle to get a game in a finals contender side , which is when we hope our window will start to open and wouldn't have assisted any players developement in keeping him !!

He will find it very hard to keep his spot all year with those guys. He is playing well but his attacking forays all ended up in turn overs. I'll take my chances with Dea at the moment but Raines is improving very well in that system and good luck to him. He should of got games late last year just on committment alone but what is done is done .

No idea mate.
He didn't get a game last year because his form was absolutely pathetic at Coburg, didn't deserve a game despite what his ego thought. He is the absolute definition of a downhill skier.

So did mcmahons form warrant a game last year? What about Kings? Matt white anyone?

shall i continue?

Whose form ?

mate wallace murdered the kid along with a few others, he is in a list of players that are blossoming away from punt road, yes we are rebuilding but if we dont acknowlrdge our mistakes we will keep on repeating them.

The kid wanted to get away from punt road after what he had been put through.

Runner up in th rising star, runner up in the B and F and overnight he lost all that potential......some of us are deluded and cant see the forest for the trees.

Our development of players is shite and has been for over thirty years.

We blame wallace for all our ills and cant remember gieschen, walls, frawley and all their stuffups in recruiting.

We all seem to forget that wallace was only a boken leg away from getting a contract extension.

Who are these kids??
Schulz - Hasn't really been that impressive, good riddance! Not going to play in a premiership side!
Peterson - Played a couple of good games at Hawks, have a feeling he will be dropped next week or week after. Hawks are depleted!!! Once they get some players back, he will be in the 2's. Therefore, won't be part of their premiership side if they make it in next 1-2 years.
Raines - Playing ok footy now, but really nothing special?!!? He got ahead of himself at Richmond and in the end, does anyone see him playing in our potential Premiership team in the next 3-5 years?
JON - Can't get a game at WCE and they are struggling...

who else is tearing it up?

Effeciency means as long as it gets to the next person? Does it matter what kind of pressure he is put under?

I saw the same old raines

It might be time for people to turn the volume down on their TV...seems to be a trend of peoples "opinions" coming from what the commentators say on the night.

:)Excellent point. It's you typical Rodan situation. Yes D. Rodan had an excellent first year at Port. But what has he done since????? Zilch ... and plagued by the same injuries that saw us offload him. Tigers made the correct call on both these guys!!

valid point, has anyone ever stop and thought why all the players we get rid of end up playing well (or at least contributing) at other clubs when they couldnt even get a game at richmond?? or why we have so many players that show such potential for 1/2 games and then just dissapear never to be seen again?? think cleve hughes, martin mcgrath (i may be wrong but im pretty sure he kicked 5 goals on debut and then only went on to play 2-3 more, correct me if im wrong), raines, rodan etc etc (cant be bothered naming them all but feel free to contributr if you can think of more) even have a look at our current team, players like collins showed such potential last year and yet arent able to make the ones in a team that is trying to "develop" the kids and look to the "future"?? It all comes down to player development and player management and richmond are shocking.
