Andrew Swallow Vs Grant Birchall

I know it's too early in their careers, I know they're different types, but who do you think will become the better player?

If we didn't trade, we would've proabably ended up with Birchall. We ended up with Swallow with the trades so it may have been worth getting Hay.

Swallow's a good prospect so far, but Birchall is still the pick of the draft for mine.

I like Birchall, uses the ball well and is probably the smartest player of the draft. Still I'd rather Swallow as he's more of a player a club needs. I'd take an in and under midfielder before a HBF most times.

Question for Hawthorn fans: Birchall played off the HBF in junior footy as well, but will he be moved into the midfield in the future?

Birch was in the Top 10 for 20m Time Trial at draft camp.

With Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Sewell etc. we don't need another in and under player.

Birchall has a beautiful long kick, rebounds well and as you saw today didn't run out of puff (unlike swallow) - despite being just 18 years old.

So far Birchall has Swallow covered. It is a bit hard comparing the two over a career, as I can see Birchall playing tall and being a full running wing man. While Swallow will fill in the mold of a Brent Harvey, Anthony Stevens midfeilder.

Over the last nine weeks he has averaged over twenty disposals per game, but his last three weeks have been stunning for an eighteen year old. He started off slowly, but in his six games prior to round 13, his lowest possession tally was eleven. I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned along with Raines, Pearce and Shaw for the rising star award.

Birchall is a dead set freak, Swallow will be very handy though with better midfeilders around him.

Outside v Inside so I won't compare them.

Both teams would be happy so far...Birchall probably shown more class but Swallow is the rarer breed, the inside midfielder.
