I know nobody is likely to care, just surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet - Andrew Wills has apparently walked out on the Western Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are unsure about promoting a rookie list player to replace him, for the time being.

R.I.P Andrew Wills

There goes the worst ever player to play AFL.

Lets hope he's not going back to the banking industry

Hey Leave Wills alone,
If the club wasn't so hell bent on using the same players week in week out regardless if they played well or crap then maybe he would of shown more of his footballing abilities,
Mark West was shafted by the club, a bloke who nearly put the dogs into a grand final (if it wasn't for a stupid goal post that was in the wrong place at the wrong time 97 prem final )
he had he's fair share of injuries but just as he was coming good the club pissed him off,

Its players like
Wills with his bald head
West with his dreadlocks
Cook with his White hair
Southern (need I say more)

these blokes might not of been the greatest players to ever play the game but they did all have alot of talent, and they were charaters,
as much as I admire the skills of Grant,Johnson and Smith along with a few other players they lack that charateristic that makes them stand out,
Im not knocking any of these players but I they come across as boring personalities compared to people like Southern and Mark West,
The dogs need players like that if they want to gain more members, they need players who aren't affraid to stand out from everyone else,
Colourful charaters made the game great, and thats one reason why its becoming boring.
so go on Grant grow a beard and Johnson get some tatts and smith grow that afro again which you had back in 1992,
more players should grow beards and get that tough look back again,
does anyone here agree?
Actually I don't care if you do or not thats my personal opinion

Interesting argument that the bullies need players of the ilk of Wills, Southern etc, you can add Ben Harrison to that list, sorry I dont agree.. the bullies need class not characters..more grants more johnson's means more success means long term viability instead of emotional adds with their star player wearing different jumpers and Smorgan running around begging for money.
Lets face it if you were a kid would you want Andrew wills jumper and no on your back
or Brad Johnson's, likewise Southern's or Grant's.
Wills did them a favour jumping ship, maybe their is another Chris Grant waiting on the rookie list.

Bullies deserve a flag somewhere along the line, they wont get one with hacks like Wills on the list.

Did my eyes deceive me on the day, or did this actually happen during the Cats vs Roos game in Round 4, in the third quarter, in the forward pocket, Hickey Stand end :
A Geelong player kicked it forward and the ball went fairly high, somehow Mensch appeared to lose sight of it, so he ducked for cover and put his arms around his head so the ball wouldn't hit him on the scone. The ball missed Mensch by a mile (err... five metres) and went to a contested situation about five metres away.
I swear I saw it, just wondering if anyone else noticed or remembered it.

I agree on Mark West. He was always a favourite of mine, and watching him during 97 was something to savour. Having such a genuine impact (and I mean IMPACT) player that could crash a game open is certainly something that will be missed. He was still getting BOG's for Willi 'til his last game, despite problems with his weight.

Agree on Southern too, but it wouldn't have been fair on himself (more than anything) to continue on with those injuries. It wasn't a club decision, as they would have been more than happy to see him continue.

BUT:- Are you saying that Wills was some sort of a cult figure? LOL

Why we decided to draft him was beyond me. As if we had a lack of older midfielders. The thing that got to me more was that last year, we delisted Jimmy Plunkett and retained Wills! Plunkett has gone on to Carlton, taken only 5 weeks to get off their rookie list and got close to 25 possies on debut! On the bright side, Wills won us a game against Melbourne last year. Waste of a spot though IMO.

I found the parts about Grant, Johnno and Smith with beards and tatts hilarious btw. You probably would have liked to have seen Heuskes play for us? Totally agree with Sticks on this- I would take class over a 'characters' anyday.

Darky and others,
His time was up. Wouldn't have got a game for the rest of the year as we're going for youth this year, so it was probably for the best to do it now. He discussed it with Terry before he decided, so there wasn't any bad blood. As you said, at least it gives us the option to promote a rookie, and we're not gonna do that until one of them really puts their hands up.... my money is on Fuller in a few weeks.

JubJub,
That worst player in the AFL played in two grand finals for you blokes!
wink.gif
.... and got something like 3rd in the 97 Brownlow!

BLOODY OATH, MARK WEST WAS A CHAMPION PLAYER. HE WOULD OF BEEN LIKE A BULLDOSER FOR OPPOSITION MIDFIELDERS AND HIS PRESENCE IS INSPIRING. 97 HE FIRED UP AND SHOWED GLIMPSES OF HIS ABILITY BUT WAS ROBBED. HIS GREATEST DISPLAYS WOULD HAVE BEEN REPRESENTING THE NT BUFFALOS, WHEN HE WAS AT HIS BEST. HE WAS A MADMAN WHO WOULD BE 1ST PICKED IN ANY AFL SIDE, WHEN AT HIS PEAK, OR IN WET CONDITIONS.

I HEARD THE HAWKS WERE LOOKING AT HIM AT SOME STAGE AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN HONOUR TO SEE HIM WITH A PROPER CLUB. HE WASTED ALOT OF TIME WITH THE DOGS AND DESERVED BETTER.

YOUR RIGHT ITS GETTING BORING WITH SO SIMILAR PLAYERS COMING THROUGH, ALL GOOD RUNNING TYPE PLAYERS AND THE GAME WILL BE LESS OF A SPECTACLE IF CHARACTERS ARENT GIVEN A GO.
THE GAME IS BECOMING DOOMED.

#19 KICK THE BALL AGAINST THE WALL' GOOD PRACTISE.
