An interesting day in court today for those paying attention.

Andruska let it slip that the ASADA investigation was “much wider than just Essendon”, and they had sent blood samples to France in 2011, which were “inconclusive” but gave them reason to think they were “on the right track”.

The interesting thing is Essendon’s program didn’t start until Jan 2012. Dank began at EFC in Nov12 and the first injections were done in Jan12.

I wonder whose blood samples were sent to France? And why? “Much wider than just Essendon”???

The government was the instigator of the whole thing (the “blackest day” press conference) and wanted early scalps with associated political gain.

Maybe the AFL, who were well connected with the ALP government, negotiated a compromise where they would offer up Essendon (the club and its officials, but not the players) as a sacrificial lamb, provided the investigation was restricted to them alone.

The evidence presented to the Federal Court in the last 2 days clearly indicates that ASADA were managed, to deliver on an outcome agreed at the outset between the government and the AFL, and were directed in the investigation by the AFL, with help from the minister whenever it was required, to push them down the agreed path.

As the ACC had been investigating Dank, which presumably yielded much of the background to the “blackest day” presser, might it be that the Gold Coast, where Dank was employed in 2011, were the club whose blood samples were sent to France in 2011 by ASADA?

Any chance the AFL chose to protect its new baby at the expense of a big robust club like EFC?

Conspiracy theory maybe, but the revelations of the last week make you realize just what deviousness and manipulation is going on behind the scenes.

It's a pity for the OP that the revelation was actually that Andruska stated that Essendon was being looked at as early as 2011, and that a probe into the club would've been forthcoming whether the AFL got involved or not.

She used the term "broader" in reference to the investigation not just taking in Essendon, but she made no mention of it being other AFL clubs that she was alluding to.

Said it before but IMO I believe ASADA were onto Dank from his NRL days. From as early as his Manly days. Dank had a high profile in the media back then up here. Gazelle was also well known to be selling "supplements" from the boot of his car. Would drive from training ground to training ground catching up with players.

EFC were just unlucky (and somewhat stupid / naive) by bringing it in-house to the extent they did. If they maintained the status quo and had Dank as an "off the books" adviser, they may well not be in the mess they are now. Maybe not however given ASADA were already onto him. Note though that without bringing in the ACC, they would probably still be investigating...and more than likely not have anything. Calculated move bringing in the ACC IMO.

Hmm, yes. We'll offer up one of the biggest clubs who have a huge amount of resources and a high profile coach.

They're likely to roll over quickly and not put up any fight.

Didn't the AFL have a meeting with James Hird in 2011 about Peptides
Late November.
I dont think its a stretch to think that the AFL would have had an eye on Dank's previous AFL activities. It definitely would have been on ASADA's if they were aware of his 'cutting edge' programs.

In all of this, I think Dank is the ultimate prize for ASADA. Hird would be the penultimate prize.

ASADA would be looking to drive out the sports scientists that trade in programs that push boundaries. And after that, they would be looking to make an example of someone like Hird who seem willing to be talked into pushing boundaries.

.

Have you heard of the NRL?

TIP: where did Dank work before the EFC

Was interesting that Aurora said that they had information from the ACC and Customs not just what they gathered through the AFL.
Also interesting that the samples that were sent for testing came back as inconclusive not negative as had been reported and the result of those test suggested that progressing with the investigation was warranted.

Dank starts 4 November 2011.

"In 2011, we were getting information about performance-enhancing drugs. We were taking samples, blood and urine samples, freezing them, waiting for them to be tested."

Ms Andruska said the samples had been sent to a laboratory in Cologne, Germany, to be tested.

Another email obtained by Fairfax Media from November 2011 shows Dank's Sydney peptide business partner Ed Van Spanje ordering a batch of six WADA-banned substances, including CJC-1295, Thymosin and Melanotan II, from Alavi.

Dank is copied in on the email at his Essendon Football Club and private email addresses.

Three weeks after this email was sent, Essendon went to the Gold Coast on a pre-season training camp. It was there that convicted drug trafficker and nutrition specialist Shane Charter met Hird and Dank to discuss supplements.

LOL... Not so interesting for anyone that's been paying attention the past 18 months. ACC/Customs/ASADA started investigation in 2011. Dank was at Cronulla in 2011. Cronulla is being investigated by ASADA. 2+2=?

Furthermore that ASADA were storing these samples and sending them to be tested is already a matter of public record.

It confirms what has become quite obvious. ACC/ASADA were onto Dank from the very first day he began at Essendon and watching everything, they were onto his dealings with his private business, Alavi and NRL.

Essendon will in the end be brought undone by hiring someone who was already under investigation.

ANTI-DOPING authorities began quietly stashing away blood samples from NRL and AFL players almost two years ago after becoming increasingly concerned about the use of peptides.

Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) chief executive Aurora Andruska told The Sunday Telegraph that the samples were frozen and placed in long-term storage until a definitive test was developed to detect the banned substance.

About 1000 individual samples from professional athletes, as well as Olympians, had been taken and stored since early 2011.

Maybe she misspoke and meant 2012.

The conspiracy theory is based on a wrong date for Dank starting, and seeing Andruska's statement as a revelation when the Cologne testing is already public record. It is an attempt to deflect that doesn't even have the decency to have been researched or be accurate.
