The collins trade was a shock to all admit it, people were on a collins bandwagon before the trade and saw him as part of the future.
I mean no disrespect to the guy, but I always got the feeling the bandwagon love on here was more of a piss take than anything else. I am sure he did have a lot of fans, but the amount of love on here for how little he had done surely couldn't be 100% serious.

In answer to the question though, we won out with the Grigg/Collins trade and that instantly tells you Grigg has had far more impact than Collins. I would rate Grigg around 10-15 most valuable player in the team so in that sense I would rate Collins in the reserves and I can't see him improving much more.

He would probably get a game at Melbourne or GWS though, which he should be pushing to do if he wants to extend his career.

Edit: I personally like the guy, I watched him play several games before he was even in the AFL since I enjoy watching my local footy, he was a star. He has potential that he just never has shown on a consistent basis.

Bendigo has a curse of our best footballers disappearing as soon as they make the AFL. Troy Selwood was by far the better Selwood twin back in the day, look what happened to him also. (Joel was always the best Selwood though)

Of course they do and in that case you can't compare them, which was more why I was basing them on my personal value of the player. If Andy was more consistent and had played better there is no reason why he couldn't be in my top 10 valuable players, above Grigg, regardless of his position.

Certainly agree on the personal value.

You kinda contradicted yourself just then though saying andy could be back in your top 10 when you say he did so little?

I should have probably said that a bit clearer, I meant more the fact he was a forward instead of a midfielder doesn't subtract from his value to me. Was more of an example, rather than a statement.

He definitely has never been in my top 10, and will never be in my top 10 now, but if he lived up to his potential he could have been a star.

Sorry for the confusion!

a big hell no. doesnt offer anything and there is no way he is a better player now than when he left. would rather get Betts (who i dont rate) or Dayle Garlett.
would also rather Relton Roberts again for that matter

Right, because a fat, slow wrong-side of 20 years old foward pocket is so much better then someone who was highly rated before he left Richmond.

FWIW I don't believe Collins will make it unless GWS/Melbourne offer him a lifeline, but comments like that to a former Tiger who gave it his all, are pretty harsh.

I know one of his relo's really well. He said Hardwick rated Andy's skill level, work ethic, leadership, footy brain really highly but the fact he found it impossible to put on beef meant he wouldn't last. Basicially a smart, quick, mature and skinny Dan Connors.

....and yet we've kept Edwards all these years.

Wouldn't mind trialing him for a year in our vfl side with a possibility of rookie listing if he showed form and continuity, but don't think he is good enough

Yeah, worth a run in the VFL, unless he gets picked up by another AFL club. I think he'd jump at the opportunity to play for our VFL team too. If he performs really well, he may even get another gig for us. If not, he can really lead our youngsters and have a good impact.
