Hey guys, just wondering how this little fella is going, when we did the trade with you guys i was really worried because he has quiet a bit on him and is a really sneaky little forward and i wasn't sure the swap was worth it.

since then grigg has done really well and i am happy we did the trade, he started off a little slow like he was scared of the hard knocks but seems to have overcome that now and is a really servicable player.

But i always liked collins and would love to see him thrive at AFL level, whats the take on him is he gonna make it ?

Really ? - I thought Richmonds fans were calling for him to be dropped towards the end of the year ??

Collins - did his shoulder - out for the year. Not much more you can say.

Not sure he will be in our best 22 but time will tell.

He is scared of the hard knocks, hence the reason why he left Carlton he was afraid of a little competition and when promised a walk up start and a bit of extra cash he jumped at it. As for Collins well he played one game, maybe two?, done his shoulder and was out for the year, didn't do anything spectacular but gotta give him some time I guess.

Looked VERY ordinary in the little game time he got this year prior to injury (2 games, one as sub?). Of course, there's little doubt he can do much better than that.

Admit it's harsh to judge based off so little game time at Carlton, but my opinion is that he will struggle to make best 22, but will be handy depth.

ps - he could teach big 206 how to win games in the 4Q when concussed. :)

AC showed in a couple of Bullant's games why we were interested in him. Has ability to burn, courage, good foot skills is not slow and loves a goal. When fit he was the most exciting player in the two's for mine. Will play AFL footy for the CFC in 2012. Watch this kid go.

Collins has just completed year 1 of his post-Richmond rehabilitation program. Lots of work still to be done. Had lots of surgery, is now in an elite fitness program, skill re-training well underway, game plan re-education etc etc. It's a huge job, and he's competing for a spot in a seriously talented list. But he has the attitude to give himself every chance. Thought Grigg went backwards in 2011 -watched a lot of his games, and he slipped into some old habits, defensive game went from good to diabolically bad, and his kicking got even worse. Still, Richmond seem content with his output and "numbers", and that's ultimately all that matters. He wouldn't be close to breaking into our starting 22 on what he showed in 2011. He never would have got out of the Bullants.

So who won the trade?

From Richmond's perspective, they've won because they have a midfielder who's better than most on their list, and who's weaknesses are minor compared to others they have. Richmond didn't have the resources/expertise to give them a chance of getting Collins on the park consistently.

From Carlton's perspective, it's a nothing trade. We have a heap of better quality midfield depth, and Grigg really wasn't needed so his departure had zero impact. Carlton wanted Grigg to improve his game, but Grigg wasnt up for the challenge and took the easy way out i.e. large contract and automatic selection. If anything it was a positive for us because it gave way more talented players like Zac Touhy more game time. Collins is an unknown.

Tough, Skillful, Great Bloke.

He's in Qatar at the moment and hopefully we really get some size onto him and get him doing a whole pre season.

He and Gibbs rotating off the HFF will be great to watch in the future/next year

I would have mentioned it here earlier in the year, but Collins actually came second to Walker in the beep test earlier this year.
Just one of those guys whose looks belie their abilities as Collins is a very fit individual.

It's actually quite unbelievable as to how many players we may have back next year if we can keep them on the park.
Collins, Bower, Russell and Lucas hardly played any football for us at all this year, largely through injury or the effects post injury.
We also had Jamison, Kreuzer, Henderson and Waite only capable of putting in short stints after their injuries.

Why did my desk suddenly raise up off the ground at the thought of Collins and Gibbs rotating off the HFF. Throw in Lucas on the wing and we have a winner

Would be funny if we end up winning this trade. Richmond supporters are starting to question some of Hardwick's "interesting" list management decisions. He's already offloaded many he recruited in his first year. And this year he totally missed the opportunity to get Mitch Clark, and instead picked up Maric with a 2nd round pick for some bizarre reason.

Gee I hope he improves, because the couple games he played for us he made some huge errors and didn't look anywhere near standard.
Had a partially affected pre-season and was came in for two of the most hotly contested games of our season (the draw against Dons and the first loss to the Pies). .. I wouldn't judge him too harshly. .. Hope he gets fit as he appears to have the potential to contribute to the midfield rotation and the scoreboard from the limited game time I've seen of his. ..

Look like a guy who can find the footy and is a good athlete. still a little too lightly built. not sure of his best role. for memory he played two games for us on the wing and up forward. were clanger filled games but i dont think mistakes and clangers are the norm for him. will be keeping a close eye on him for sure.

collins has had 5 preseasons thats ample time to establish yourself as a mid/hff. hes in the same basket as many before him who can dominate at vfl but arent up to it in the big time,he wont last long.

But he did show at Richmond that he could play. He won a game off his own boot and kicked goals at numerous other important moments of games. Sure he didn't get going this year at carlton but I think it's a little too early to be writing him off just yet.

I strongly disagree, but I guess we'll just wait and see.

in fairness to Andy - four of those preseasons were at Richmond.

I'd consider Collins a 2nd year player in AFL terms, because players very rarely progress at Richmond, and generally go backwards.

Will be interesting to see what role he's being trained up for. Maybe competing with Kerr as an opportunist medium forward/midfielder type role. He looked totally lost in his 2 senior games this year, but that's understandable given the ground he has to make up in terms of fitness, skills retraining and game plan re-education. He does have an innate sense of the game, and reads the play very well in the front half, and that's what Ratten likes. Just a question of whether we can get the other areas of his game up to the necessary standard we demand at Carlton. He's got every chance of making it especially with our outstanding player development facilities. i.e. Qatar Aspire Versus Craigieburn.
