Be careful with the "finals footy" call. It`s a big turning circle c4l.
 
Very gutsy footballer. The fans (of any club) love a gutsy footballer on their team who is willing to sacrifice himself, and this is why he has so quickly become a fan favourite.

Has a lot of self confidence, for somone so small in stature and he knows he belongs.

As windyhill said, a steal. Who needs high draft picks? They are so overrated (as Adelaide has proved) it's not funny.

And for what it's worth crows_4_life, he will be playing in the finals next year.

Essendon would have to do a lot wrong by him, for him to leave.

was talking to monfries a month or so when he came back to adelaide for a few days. seeing as he was/is good mates with my brother and i'd chatted before i went over and had a talk to see how he was going, he said he would love to move back to adelaide one day but for the time being he's sticking with the bombers, also said he still has a big soft spot for the team he barracked for since he was a little tacker - the crows :D :thumbsu:

Monfries was most definately the right pick. He's just an absolute class act and compliments the midfields we drafted in earlier drafts.

With Lucas, Lloyd, Laycock, Johns already on the list I'm not sure a CHF was a high priority. We also drafted Lee with our next pick.

I reckon Dunn has the potential to be good, but I think Monfries has the potential to be great.

You're right. I have a theory that the Cannons are the best preparer of AFL players although with the coaching changes I think the Knights and Chargers are also way up there. You are making a huge call about Gus but I can see why you would. I think Matthew Bate is a very very good player and he would have been handy.
 
Incidently, as much as he presents himself extremely well in our forward 50...he's going to be so much more damaging when he gets placed in the middle. The fact that he prefers it there will add to his potential no doubt

well no if u read what i wrote, he is an SA boy and his family and friends are in adelaide not sydney

Not everybody goes home chief, although he's more than welcome to after he retires from footy.

in case you haven't read the thread i know gus, he is keen to come home but is sticking with essendon for the time being, but definetly wants to make a return home to adelaide.

quite humerous thinking you know all about gus and you don't even know him :D

Quite humerous that you find it necessary to tell everyone several times that you know the bloke. Congratulations to you....you are obviously a great person.

Look, Essendon has put alot of time and faith into this kid and is going to continue to do so in the coming years. I can see why playing in your home state would appeal to a young bloke in his first few years interstate but the longer he is at the club the harder it will be for him to leave. The bloke has just re-signed. If he signs another deal at the end of his currrent tenure, he would be approaching the peak of his career at the same time as the Bombers will be hitting a premiership challenging period. Do you think he will leave then? Now i understand that you are best mates with him and you are more than likely speaking to him on the phone right now so why don't you ask him whether he would like to be part a list that will be reaching its full potential in 3-4 years time or whether that would be the perfect time to jump ship and go home?

I am absolutely sweating on your response.

hahaha you really are an idiot.

all i am saying is that none of you know anything about gus or what his feelings are, i on the otherhand have had long chats with him. i'm sure he doesn't care if he's with the bombers or the crows but HE has stated that he wants to come home one day but of course he's not going to abandon his club just to come home, if there were trade talks however i'm sure he would be interested. i never said he was going to quit the bombers at the end of the season and come home, all i have said is that he would like to come home one day.
 
Most of those players on that list have been good pickups for their respective clubs EXCEPT Richard Tambling. Is he still battling injury ?

IF (for arguments sake) he were seeking to be traded back to Adelaide at some stage....I couldnt see us getting anything less than a first round draft pick for him. It would most likely have to involve a 3 way deal if Adelaide continue to finish in the top of the ladder n not being able to pick up anyone in the top 5.
I think once he becomes elevated into the leadership group in his early 20s...he'll stick around and become a marquee player with us.
