Fourteen days jail for poisoning over 400 wedge tail eagles.

A New Zealand man has been jailed for 14 days and fined $2,500 for poisoning 406 wedge-tailed eagles at three remote properties in Victoria's east.

Farm worker Murray James Silvester, 59, pleaded guilty to killing the protected birds at Tubbut in east Gippsland between October 2016 and April 2018.

The eagle carcasses were found hidden in bush and scrub on three separate farms spanning 2,000 hectares.

Hope these people get the book thrown at them. Disgusting what someone people will post on social media:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-of-possum-as-rspca-condemns-spate-of-attacks
"“Without meaning to sound too melodramatic, the links between this type of cruelty and acts of violence toward humans have been well researched over the years.”"

Except that's exactly what he's doing. The cruelty is bad enough on its own so stick to what you're there for RSPCA.

They sentenced that guy who ran over the emus. Do you think it was an adequate penalty?

His defence is BS though, was clearly enjoying running them over like that.
Definitely something wrong in his head. He still believes it was ok. I hope it's not just 42 days and that's it. Hopefully he'll be required to receive psychological treatment.

Agree, his defence was almost as if it was a mercy killing and turning it around on the RSPCA. Nothing merciful about running emus down to die a horrible death injured and broken. Utterly sickening. His righteous attitude imo says he'll probably do it again.

Someone has to write this penalties up for legislation
they are too leniant
another case..... of an animal lover needs to be the CEO or chairman
not a politician or lawmaker
who does not care less
(offenders)there day will come
