I think that it means "On the other side of the Earth".
Living here in England, most English people seem to use it incorrectly, to describe Aus or NZ ONLY. I think actually, it is true to say that we are the Antipodes for the UK, and THEY are the antipodes for us.
A lot of English people seem to also think it is a put down!!!????
