According to the story in the Hun today, Walsh said the club has been monitoring Elliotts ankle since the season finished, recommendation from the specialist was rest should allow it to heal. Again, you just seem desperate to find a negative.
A fair few repeat offenders are on this forum that are literally 99% negative.

I am one for telling it how it is and not everything is rainbows and butterflies but dont go looking for a negative in any situation. Wont name any names but there are a few on the top of my head.

In this circumstance they shouldn't have said anything until the scan results came back, which was only a few hours after the story broke. When a popular player has a mishap in a very public training session, you can't pretend like it was all part of the plan as the club tried to do.

In a perfect world they probably should have said "we've been monitoring Jamie's ankle since the end of the season, recommendation was that rest was the best option and it should heal of its own accord, but Jamie still has some discomfort with it so we've sent him off for scans to see where it's at." According to Walsh (Hun report) that is what happened. But in a doorstop, why not roll out the evasion 101 response. The issue isn't the response, it's that people are sitting back analyzing every syllable looking for flaws, desperate for something to go wrong so they can point an accusing finger. As I say, no matter what they'd said, somebody would take issue with it.

The specialist was wrong so let's change specialists.

Do you seriously think Collingwood fans hope something will go wrong with a star player so they can point an accusing finger? I would much prefer that nothing goes wrong so that I don't have to think about accusing anyone of anything, and I reckon 99.9% of posters would feel the same.

The specialist was wrong so let's change specialists.

Specialist would only be making recommendations based on learnings from previous cases, who knows what % cases do/don't respond to rest. It's an in-exact science. Happy for you to contact the club with recommendations though.

The club should not need the likes of me to make recommendations about specialists. They should have a thorough knowledge of everyone in the business and should be very selective with who they use. The guy who ****ed up with Elliott this time should not be the specialist consulted next time. I can only hope that the club learns from experience and acts accordingly.

With the comment, not the player.

I'm pleased that this doen't apply to you but some posters seem to thrive on negativity and allocating blame. They need to justify their judgemental position as the off-field expert with penetrating insight into medical specialities, player management, game plan & structure, recruiting and all-round football omnipotence. As much as I'd like your 99.9% to be accurate I can't help feeling that it's a trifle optimistic.

Well given you were obviously at the consultation and heard word for word what he said in terms of recommended treatment and likely outcomes, I'll defer to your greater knowledge.

That’s definitely the case for some of the vocal minority.

??????? Que?

They want the message to be wrong. How many times have we seen posters dine out on Perts "we will play finals this year" comment or use the "but <insert club official> said ......., why do they lie to us".

Is there any chance that the player involved didn't update the club regularly about the failure of rest as a recovery method of the injury during the union forced break they must have?

Gotta sack Eddie and Bucks over this obviously...

Cause Jamie clearly can't be to blame as he 100% recovered properly during his time off.

p.s... who pissed in my bin?

Thanks for that. I have arranged a change of specialists for Jamie and told the current one in no uncertain terms that he is a bumbling fool with zero credibility. He accepted his inadequacies and has agreed to hand Jamie's treatment over to someone more competent and decisive. I will keep you posted on his progress.

Even Tony Jones callled out the club yesterday. Why can’t you do it?

Gee, Tony Jones, wow.

By the way, I'm happy to call out the club when I believe they've done something wrong, but given what has subsequently been shown as a less than accurate comment to a media outlet is hardly cause to rally the lynch mob, don't see the need in this instance. By all means don't let that stop you throwing a little tanty though and demand heads roll.

Without the benefit of first hand knowledge or other concrete evidence I wouldn't be throwing the club's medical professionals under a bus.

I share the disappointment about Jamie, but this is simply a case of him not responding well enough to conservative treatment. It is not clear to me how his recovery was mismanaged (perhaps a person with more knowledge that I have can help me understand). Firstly people need to understand that surgery carries risk, and secondly (and most importantly) that it is not always the best option.

Perhaps The Royal Sampler or Gone Critical can help us understand how long after surgery Jamie's ankle joint can be flexed/extended so that we can get a better handle on when he can start low impact work swimming/cycling/rowing etc to regain fitness and of course joint rehab. Running will be the last thing in his program.

On another note, we all know that the club has under-performed in the last few years but it would seem that the slightest issue is now proof of our incompetence.

Fair enough, but I don't consider this to be 'slight'.
A key player played largely meaningless, late season games with an issue this serious?

In hindsight it would have been better to write 2017 off and embark on getting him 100%.

On the flip-side he was effective when he did take the field and it might have been difficult to predict that he would not recover from this over the break.
